The girl next door

Maxie Forster is a binman who carries out ashes from the coal fires of North Shields the holes in his leather soled boots are letting in water from the rain and he cannot afford to go and take the boots to the cobbler shop in Billy Mill. He tries repairing them with some old lino and cuts the shape out with a stanley knife and glues them with some evo stick then places cardboard in the insides. Looking over the road on his round he spots a family being evicted by the bailiffs - the wagon is loaded with furniture and the woman and her five children stand in the rain as the barrow with everything she owns is pushed down the street.

“No thank you I’m driving.’

“You have a car?

Yes, that’s my jaguar outside.

“Really, you have moved up in the world haven’t you?’

Yes, I got promoted as well this week so I am now a development officer and I have my own office.’

Annabella came down the stairs and she looked beautiful in white sleeveless dress and black high heels. Her hair hung on her shoulders and it was shining like black stallion.’

She smiled as she saw him and he asked if she was ready to leave. He opened the front door and she made to walk down the street and Russell called her back.

“Is this your car; yes he said; as he opened the passenger door for her and she slid into the leather seat. Her long legs didn’t go unnoticed as she adjusted her dress.’

The engine purred like a sleeping cat as he started her up. He pulled slowly away as Mrs Belsham watched from the upstairs window.

Russell let Annabella chat away as he drove along. He was getting admiring looks from other women as he drove along the coast. He not only had the best looking car in the world; he had the best looking woman too.’

“He drove past the Dove Marine Museum then onto Tynemouth Plaza Ballroom. He turned into the car park slowly then stopped. He got out and again opened the door of the passenger side. Annabella took his arm and it was the first time he had felt bodily contact with this vision of loveliness. They crossed the road and went inside where he led her to the ballroom. They found a table and she sat down whilst he asked what she would like to drink?

“Could I have a glass of dry white wine please Russell?’

“Certainly; Russell walked to the bar with an air of confidence that he’d never felt before. He was being looked at by some other women in the room and he just smiled. The music from the live band played as he ordered a bottle of dry white wine and a Spritzer for himself. He returned to his seat and waited until the drinks were brought to the table. He paid the waiter and left him a tip.’

Then he poured the wine as if he had done so a million times but had only seen it done in the Dr No James Bond movie.’

Annabella sampled the wine and nodded approvingly as Russell watched her intently.

She asked him about his promotion and he explained how he was now involved with the re-development programme that would make massive changes to the look of the Tyne with hotels and luxury apartments.’

“Now that is where I would like to live one day she said.’

That is good because I plan to buy one that I am designing myself. Is there anything Specific that you would like to see built in these luxury apartments.’

“Yes, I would like to see a modern fitted kitchen where you just touch the drawers to open them and an oven on the wall where you can open it without having to bend down. Each room would have a walk in shower unit and toilet facility. Russell was writing all of this down onto a serviette.

“Anything else?’

“The blinds on all the windows can be opened or closed at the touch of a switch and the lights dimmed or turned off by remote control.’

There would also be a security system would only allow someone to enter with the correct code and a camera at both the entrance and the front door so you can view who is there.
