"Nialler?" I asked in disbelief to no one in particularly. Bobby heard me, however.
"Yes, Niall. You didn't know he was coming?" He asked in confusion. I shook my head and furrowed my eyebrows. I don't know why I'm not freaking out. I should be freaking out, right?
I watched from the sideline as Niall talked with his parents. He wore such a happy smile it was impossible to not smile just watching it.
"Niall, honey, I have someone I want you to meet," Maura said and gestured to me. Niall furrowed his eyebrows and followed her hand to me. I caught his eyes and smiled a little. Eye-to-eye, blue-to-blue.
"Mum, who's this?" Niall asked, not breaking eye contact as he spoke to his mum.
"This is Katelyn Harries, and she's going to be here with us for a while," Bobby answered and placed a hand on my right shoulder.
"Why?" Niall asked. My heart stung a little by his words. I knew he wouldn't want me to be here. I just knew it was too good to be true. I broke eye contact and fiddled with my fingers as I looked at the wooden floor in shame.
"Niall! Don't be rude!" Maura said.
"What? I'm not being rude!" Niall exclaimed. I looked up at Niall and discovered him already looking at me. I bit my lip and looked away. "I just want to know who she is and why she's here!"
"Then ask me," I interrupted in a small voice and a little shrug. All there heads turned to me and I blushed a light pink.
"We'll leave you to it," Booby said interrupting the silence and walked into the kitchen with his ex-wife.
"So, what do you want to know?" I asked in a small voice. He walked past me into the living room and I followed closely behind him. I took place on the sofa opposite him. I repeated my question without looking at him.
"Firstly I want you to look at me," he said his thick accent ringing around the room. I looked at him but avoided eye contact.
"What's your name?" He asked. I furrowed my eyebrows but answered him even though he already know it.
"Katelyn Harries," I answered.
"Do you know who I am?" He asked pointing to himself. I rolled my eyes by answered him anyway.
"Great! Then I can ask you questions instead!" He exclaimed and smiled big. I shook my head and smiled in amusement.
"So favorite color?"
It went on like that for a solid hour of my life. I learned a lot about him that I didn't know, and that we actually have a lot more in common than just the appearance.
"So date of birth?" He asked. Okay, now we get to the tricky part.
"Uh.. September 13th 1993," I answered. His facial expression didn't change, however mine changed from relaxed to anxious.
"Hey, that my birthday too!" He laughed. When I didn't laugh with him, he stopped immediately. "Wait.." He looked at me. It was like he was seeing me for the first time.
"The hair, the eyes, the laugh, the teeth even. The accent, birthday, all the things we have in common.." He mumbled to himself finally slowly putting the pieces together. "Am I going crazy or are you.." He couldn't finish his sentence. I was starting to get really uncomfortable.
"Yes, Niall, honey. There are something we have failed to tell you," Maura came into the living room followed my her former husband.
"What haven't you been telling me?" He asked and got up from his seat. He walked to stand in front of his mum and dad.
"Take a seat, son," Bobby said and gestured to the sofa. Niall takes his former seat and Maura and Bobby takes place beside up, one of each sofa, facing each other.
"Many years ago, nineteen to be exact, I was pregnant with a baby. I was dating Bobby at that point in time. I was afraid to tell him about the pregnancy, I thought he wouldn't love me anymore," Maura started looking at Bobby and the Niall with a small sad smile on her face.
"But when she finally told me, I was ecstatic, thrilled to be a father," Bobby continued.
"We were so happy to be bringing a little baby boy to the world. But when I was in labor and was giving birth, the doctors were shocked to discover a second baby! A little baby girl with a head full of hair," Maura said and looked at me. I was shocked to hear what she was telling me.
"But time were tough and we knew we wouldn't be able to give two children a good upbringing. So we decided to, as hard as it may have been, to give up out baby daughter for adoptions. We just wanted her to have the great life we knew we were able to give her," Bobby continued the story with a frown etched on his face. I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
"What was the girls name?" I asked in a shaky voice and looked at Maura. She gave me a sad smile but with a proud glimpse in her eyes.
"Katelyn Rose Horan," she answered as yet another tear fell from my eye. I just nodded.
"I knew it," I whispered and got up from my seat.
"Katelyn, wait!" Niall yelled after me, but I was already out the door and heading down the street. I continued walking, ignoring their calling voices. I really just needed to be alone.
