19. Career Team-Up
By the next morning, I realized that Caleb had almost every single one of the careers on his side, like he had planned to do.
How did I know this?
Well, they were all below my sleeping tree which was a very bad thing...
It seemed like this place was becoming more and more crowded, but this was the only pine tree that I'd found in this entire forest....And the best hiding place there is.
What was I supposed to do???
My tree was becoming a hotspot, that's for sure. I needed to figure something out and fast!
So, as I climbed down, voices became very, very close.
Freezing in my spot on the tree, a big limb with pine needles all over it completely hid me..For the moment.
The voices grew louder and then became distant, so I climbed down in a rush and then started going in a different direction.
Something felt strange and the air was heavy with mischief.
Something was about to go down, but I knew not of what that 'something' might be.
And then, something stange happened.
A silver parachute came down and landed in my arms.
I had heard of these before...And seen them on TV during the past games.
The little silver parachutes were the only way for sponsors and mentors to send things needed to the tributes.
I picked it up and opened it, finding a hammock like thing, then I seen a note.
"Watch out for Caleb and the careers...They're everywhere." Finnick.
So that's why strange feelings and such were floating around.
I instantly held my bow close and looked around.
I needed to hide and quickly.
So, I started running in a random direction.
Not caring about the tree or anything, but I knew that I was being watched and I didn't like it.
I knew how things went in the games.
You were on twenty-four-hour surveillance....Every single day.
Nothing was hidden from the cameras, everybody saw it all...
The deaths, the ally's being formed, people turning against each other---They could see everything!
As I ran through the forest, I tried to find another place to hide.
Again, I came to a cave.
Rushing inside, I took a few breaths and then examined the hammock.
This wasn't an ordinary hammock that's for sure!
It was the color of water and had--What looked like--a little blue button on it.
The thing made me curious...
Was this even a hammock at all?
I pressed the little blue button, only for nothing to happen.
Confused as to what it was supposed to do, I frowned.
Then I decided to test out an Idea I came up with.
I went to the river quickly, and--While on the river bank--got inside the hammock.
A zipper on the inside where the button was went from my feet to my head, securing me inside the hammock.
I rolled off of the bank and into the water, then pressed the blue button.
Soon, I felt myself moving, and then all of a sudden, I stopped.
The inside of the hammock was see-through, and when I looked out and saw that I was deep under the water, my eyes widened.
How was the water not getting in?
It had to be water-proof for that to work...But what kind of contraption was this?!?!
As I seen that I was hidden from the eyes of the tributes, I knew that I was hidden from everything and everyone.
I could wait the game out in here, but I had no food.
I could always open the zipper just a tiny bit to drink water.
So, as I thought about it, I wondered how I would get back to the surface.
If I could gather some stuff to eat and then get back into my water hammock, I'd be good to go for a few hours.
Then, I could get out when I needed too--which should be very rarely-- and then come straight back.
The games would pass and I would be the safest I would ever be.
So, I pressed the blue button again and soon, I was at the top of the water.
I unzipped the zipper and then climbed out, taking the hammock with me.
I walked through the woods, searching for stuff that would keep for a few days, but knew that it would be difficult to find such things...
* * * *
I looked around at all three of the careers.
Smirking, I knew that my plan was successful and working.
Now, if I could keep them from turning on each other, I'd be doing well.
Valerie and Royal--From District 1--were observing all of the other career tributes.
The two were close, and I had almost came to the conclusion that they were brother and sister, although neither of them had said so.
Max--District 2--, was playing with his sword. He was running his fingers along the edge of the blade, making sure it was still sharp.
Feather could have been a part of my group, but she would have faced a terrible fate in the end...She still would though.
She was first on my kill list, but I knew that she wouldn't be our first kill.
She would run, she would hide, but we would kill her eventually.
She would fight and try her hardest, but there's more of us than there is of her.
As I smiled and looked at the three of them, my voice was more evil and harder.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the hunting party." I said with an evil smirk as I began to tell them of my plan.
