The Odds Aren't In My Favor

Feather Amaris Albany was on her own. Her parents had married when they were in their teens, but a year after they had Feather, her father died in The Hunger Games. When she was twelve, her mother died, leaving her alone and on her own. She had to take care of herself. She traded, she hunted and she learned to fight...Especially since she had to stay alive and no one was there for her. But, after the first few months, someone helped her and that someone was Finnick O'Dair. He had helped her out by paying her to do things around the house for him and he had given her things that she needed. Now, she's seventeen and facing the next greatest danger in her life...The Hunger Games. She wishes that it was a nightmare, she hopes that it's all a dream, but sadly it's a reality that she has to live with. Now she must fight to the death and stay alive, and with Finnick as a mentor, she's sure that she can do it! Feelings start to get in the way, and she fights for her life, but what'll happen?

10. Caleb's Eyes

At dinner that evening, Caleb was his usual self.
Making comments and saying things that very nice, or mature for that matter.
As I was still eating, he talked about all the easy kill tributes he had seen and which one would be his first kill.
Apparently it was some girl by the name of Willow.
She was a girl from district eight and had black hair with stunning blue eyes from what he said.
I then started to wonder if that was a thing for eight...Black hair and beautiful blue eyes.
So, as he continued on talking, I heard a familiar name pop up and I instantly was alert.
"Tanner will be easy, he cares too much, like Feather." He says as I glared at him. "Of course, I could lure him in with Feather's help before I killed her off... After all, he seems to be taken with her." His smirk was even bigger.
Finnick looked into my eyes and Mags did the same.
"Tanner from eight?" Finnick asks.
"He's just talked to me. He even agreed that Caleb was a jerk." I said.
"And yet you two seem so friendly with each other." Caleb says smiling at me.
"Can't people talk without having others interrupt?" I ask rather protectively.
His eyes widen and he holds his hands up. "I was only saying---"
"Well stop saying, stop jumping to conclusions too while you're at it!" I snap and FInnick watches us. "Tanner and I are just friendly with each other, it's not like I love him."
Caleb smirks, leaning back in his chair and placing his right hand on the table.
"That's right, you and Tanner aren't in love, it's you and Finnick."
My eyes widen at the sudden conclusion from Caleb and I almost lunge at him.
"Would you stop!" I say.
"Nah, besides, I know it's the truth. The way he looks at you, the way he touches you--Even Mags knows it's true." Caleb says.
Finnick frowns at Caleb and Caleb takes that as his cue to leave.
Caleb's eyes were hiding something too, I knew it just by looking into them.
He was up to something.
Just before Caleb turned to leave he smirked at me. "Getting people on your side isn't really that hard when they've got their guards down. I've alread got five people on my side who I'll kill off when I have the chance."
"That's your mistake, when they turn against you, don't come crying to me for help when it was your own stupidity that got you there in the first place." I say glaring at him.
He just laughs, heading off to his room.
I turned to look at Finnick who was looking at Mags.
The things that Caleb was saying couldn't be true, if they were then I was in deeper trouble than I had been before.
But then I thought of everything Finnick had said to me.
"Just stay alive and you won't owe me nothing more." He had said.
"I like this position."  He said earlier when we had trained.
I remembered how his eyes were different yesterday...How they were...Mezmerized, I guess you would say.
It was all starting to make sense...
The night he stayed with me and helped me out with the feelings I had, the day of the tribute parade when he'd looked at me and called me beautiful--It was all adding up and raising more questions, showing me every memory of him being nice or sweet to me.
When I met his eyes, I couldn't tear myself away from them.
So, I got up abruptly--Like the other night--, and started towards my room.
It was a long day and tomorrow would be even longer. I still had to train and everything and feelings couldn't get in my way right now....
