Down On Jackson Street

Nobody ever expected them to become friends, much less brothers.

Ki's point of view

I walked home from the arcade and I kept thinking. Amelia seemed upset the last hour we were there. I asked her what's wrong but she didn't want to talk about it, no matter how many times I asked. I took out my phone and texted her.

Amelia, please tell me what's wrong...

It's nothing important, Ki. I promise.

  Please Amelia...

  I'm fine.

I put my phone away and ran to her house.

  Her dad answered the door.

"Hey, uh, sir, can you tell Amelia to meet me at the mall?" I asked.

 "Ki, it's late." He said.

"I know sir, but it's important. I want to make sure she's okay." I said.

"Okay." He said and shut the door.

I waited at the mall but I didn't see Amelia.

I was sitting at a table when someone with a box on their head walked up to me.

"Hello, I was wondering if you'd like to go on a date?" They said.

Their voice was used with a voice modifier.

 "Uh, no thanks." I said.

I heard crying from inside the box.

 "Are you okay?" I asked.

 "Yeah." They said.

I stood up and walked closer to them. I tried taking the box off but they kept backing up.

 "Who are you?" I asked.

 "Nobody." They quickly said.

I kept walking towards them until they were up against the wall.

I slowly took off the box to see Amelia. A waterfall was running down her cheeks and her hair was in a bun. Her makeup was smeared.

She burst out in tears and slid towards the floor.

 I sat next to her.

 "What's going on?"

She couldn't breathe because she was crying so much.

 "Amelia, breathe."

"Why don't you love me? Why do you think it'll end badly?" She cried.

 I paused.

 "You heard that?"

 She nodded.

 "Amelia..." I said.

"Ki, I love you so fucking much. It hurts more than you will ever know." She got up and ran.

 I ran after her.

She ran into the bathroom and locked the door.

I tried opening the door but I couldn't.

"Amelia, I'm sorry about that, okay? You're an amazing person and you're everything I could ever want in a girl." I said.

 No answer.

"I'm sitting outside the door. I'm not leaving." I said and sat down.

After a few minutes of silence, I started talking again.

"Amelia, you know what's been going through my mind the past month? You. All you. Everyday, it was you. Every second. I thought about the way you laugh, the way we get into crazy situations together, just... you. Yes, I did say that but honestly, I was denying my feelings. I had my heart broken before, followed by a shovel to the head. But that's not the point. I could barely deal with losing a bitch like Marie. But ever since we saw each other again, everything has been better. You made sure I was okay, and that I wasn't doing anything stupid unless it was with you. So, yeah, I could barely tolerate losing Marie. But I would die without you."

"As a friend, I know, I know." She cried from inside the bathroom.

"Amelia, please come out." I sighed.

The door opened and I quickly stood up.

I used my sleeve to wipe her tears away.

"Ki, please, don't say anything if it's just going to break my heart." She sighed.

She had her back turned to me and her arms crossed.

I jumped in front of her.

"Amelia, I couldn't go a day without you."

 She put her arms down.

 I held her hand.

"I've been ignoring everything that I felt because I didn't want to get hurt again, but I don't care anymore because I would suffer any amount of pain for you." I said.

 She looked in my eyes.

 "I love you."

She smiled and held me tight.

"Don't let me go." She sniffed.

 "Wasn't planning on it."

She rested her head on my shoulder.

I rubbed her back and kissed her cheek.
