1. Alight

alight

she likes fire

likes the coal-black

choke

smoke in the lungs

a cloak

of dust

hot

metal

embers

curses whispered

down the throat

charred paper of letters and

their senders are

cinders

lightless flame and fingers

curling

skin-

melted

corroded

a touch like ire

heat

strength and agony

and pain

and something

so addictive

and-

bruises? cigarette burns?

wax dripping

peeling

moonlight submits to the

flaring sun

red ashes

call from

distant

grates

she calls in your

head

in darkness

sometimes

fire but not

light-

quite something

in nothing

bright

candle wavers

lost in

loving the hollows of collarbones

in musky rooms

spills over shadows

in tombs

being alive or

burning alive?

loving

yearning

raging

stars fall

the sky is crying

swallowed in flame

in her

in

touch and

smell and

the taste of

ochre

lips sting with

acrid kisses

and

oh

it burns

it burns

it all burns

and can't she see?

can't she?

can't she?

that fire she likes so much

is setting her

alight.
