Alwen was well impressed with his knife skills as he set a pot of boiling water away and placed the bacon bones into it.
“He’s like that chef we see on the telly; you know The Galloping Gourmet.’
“Graham Kerr you mean,’
“Yes, I know him; he was on one of the courses that I was on.’
“He loves to talk, especially about food.’
When the bones had been boiling enough for the meat on them to falloff and create a good stockpot he added all the vegetables he had rinsed in a big colander. Then he set about making the leek pudding by frying some leeks in butter. Then taking suet and some flour he set about mixing it with a little water until it formed dough then added the softened leeks. He placed the football shaped dough into the muslin and tied it up.
Then he placed it into another large pot of boiling water.
He used a paring knife to split the tiger prawns to remove the digestive tract. They were now all ready to be fried in a pan with the monk fish that would go with the salad along with some cubed feta cheese and croutons.
“Right Alwen; put on your glad rags we are going out for a drive as Tracey is going to show me around Llandudno.’
Gordon added the pulses to the large pot then browned the lap to render the fat from it then added it to the broth he stirred it and the soup began to thicken. He turned down both gasses to a gentle simmer whilst both women got themselves ready.’
A half an hour later he turned off both gasses and left them to be reheated when Dylan and Dai returned from work.
“We have five hours to kill before your father and brother return.’
“Six said Tracey they will go straight to the gym first.’
“Okay then you can drive my car as you know where you are going.’
“Really, do you trust me behind the wheel of your car?’
Gordon opened the back door of the car so Alwen could get in then gently closed it. He got into the passenger side and waited for Tracey to start up the engine.
Tracy turned at the end of the road and headed towards the Great Orme where they walked to the cave and the lighthouse before taking a cable car ride. Then they visited Conwy bird sanctuary set up by the RSPB.
Gordon took many photographs to add to his ever growing collection. They stopped off at a café and ate a sandwich and a cup of coffee before taking the cable car back. Gordon called in at the bank and got some cash he put more petrol into the car and Tracey drove them back. “It is really beautiful here Tracey I’m very surprised that you left.’
“Well if I hadn’t we would not have met.’
“I guess you’re right on that one.’
Brian Reid sat at the table after getting his wife Alice a drink he told her that he would have to go to sell bingo cards and would be back soon. She was introduced to Alan Young’s wife Helen and they talked mainly about their husbands whilst they waited.
“Alan was telling me that you and Brian have just recently moved.’
“Yes, we bought a house not far from here near Preston Hospital.
“So where did you live before that?
“Oh we’ve always lived North Shields near the Ralph Gardner School. Yes there are some nice houses there on the main road. Well said Alice nervously we lived slightly off there but the place we had wasn’t as nice as we have now and there was no gardens Just a back lane you see.’
