him. She turned off the television and said only one word “Well? It was a question rather than a statement.’

“I joined the club tonight Alice and guess what?’ they only asked me to join their committee.’

“I told you if you look smart and talked correctly you will go far.’

“You were right Alice; things are looking up for us.’

“They will keep on doing so as long as you keep your nose clean and behave yourself.’

“Are you ready for an adventure then asked Gordon as he took the rucksack from Tracey and placed it in the boot along with his? She had a walking aid which he had also to stop them from falling on loose scree. Both had packed food and drinks for the trip. Gordon had a map of the route that they would take and his compass that was around his neck would keep him right. His Pentax camera’s and zoom lenses were on the back seat. Gordon opened the front passenger side to allow Tracey to get in.

“I’ve already been to the garage to petrol so we can head straight off. I thought we could drive to Durham then through to Darlington then on to Kirkby Stephen and then cut across to Kendal.’

“Sounds good to me Gordon; we have certainly got the weather for it haven’t we she undid her light weight jacket and placed it on the back seat and put on a pair of sun glasses.

Gordon went into his glove compartment and took out his sunglasses too. Tracey had tied her hair up and her long neck made her look very sexy with the red coloured breathable polo neck jumper she had on. Gordon wore a black lightweight jumper and a pair of waterproof hiking trousers the same make as Tracey was wearing.

“So Gordon, where are we climbing today?’

“Well considering that it has been a while since you last climbed I thought that we’d do a nice gentle one which is around five miles.’

Have you done this one before then?’

“Yes many times it’s called Haystacks, there are some lovely views along the way which I will show you and there’s a tarn just below at the summit.’

Lovely, how long will it take to get there?’

I’ve done it in less than an hour and a half before putting my foot down but since we are in no hurry it will take nearly two give or take.’

Then we can eat lunch before we set off is that okay?’

“Yes, that will be fine.

“I rustled us up a waldorf salad.’

“I also have surf and turf; freshly cooked tiger prawns and chicken with some creamy pasta and cherry tomatoes.

“I brought a bottle of Chateau Whitley bay to go with it said Gordon laughing.

“You make your own wine too; Gordon you are a man of many talents.’ certainly someone who any woman would appreciate.’

“I usually make around one hundred and fifty bottles per year; of different varieties of course.’

“So do we have a red or white today?’

“I brought a nice sauvignon it’s a little sweeter than the Chianti we had last night but it will go nice with what we are eating today.

“I cannot wait to try it.’

“It beats me why so many people go abroad when we have some lovely countryside in Britain.’
