Breaking the chain

Heather Reid a sixteen year old girl is found collapsed in Howdon - she has run away from her home on West Percy road North Shields, because she is pregnant. She is taken to Willington Quay Maternity hospital where upon she gives birth to a baby Girl that she names Dawn because the dawn was breaking when she was giving birth. After complications set in Heather dies of Toxaemia and her father will not bring up a bastard child. Dawn is adopted by two university lecturers - follow her story as her real father seeks her out and a court battle ensues. this is a tragic story that will have you reading until the end.

“Not at all Mr Hart.’

“Will you be eating out tonight or would you like me to prepare you something for coming in?’

“I will be eating out tonight Mary thank you.’

“Well top of the morning to you then and I will see you later in the week.’

Gordon went into his wallet and gave Mary a cheque; he hadn’t paid her since he’d gone to Italy.’

“Thank you Mr Hart but you have paid me a lot more than I asked for.’

That is a little something from Doreen; I’m sure she would have wanted you to have something and if there are any of those clothes that you would like please feel free to help yourself. There are some lovely dresses and coats that you may like.’

Gordon left the house and drove towards Blyth where he was meeting Ralph Mason for lunch; well it would be brunch because he’d only drunk a cup of black coffee with three sugars.’


The Seahorse was filling up as Gordon went in and ordered a cup of black coffee.’

He still felt hung over when Ralph walked in.’

Hello old chap; Christ black coffee Gordon, were you knocking the whiskey back last night; you look like shit?’

“Yes I had a few.’

“You look pretty rough matey; a good meal inside you will make you feel better.’

The waiter arrived and Gordon ordered a beer; hair of the dog old man?’

“No I better not I’m driving Ralph.’

“Right then lets see what we can have to eat; scanning the menu Gordon couldn’t really face anything but settled for a bowl of asparagus soup and lamb cutlet with new potatoes and minted peas.

“Well I’m going to have the halibut with asparagus, grilled tomatoes, and horse radish sauce.’

“Would you care for the soup of the day sir asked the waiter?’

“Alright then I will have soup to start.’

“It’s a good job I work out isn’t it Gordon. You should come along old man the squash courts are the place to work up a good sweat.’

“I never seem to have the time these days.’

“You have to make time Gordon no disrespect to Doreen; but you have to pick yourself up and get back in the saddle.’

“Yes I agree.’

“Why don’t you come out with us tomorrow night we are meeting a few friends on Newcastle quayside we can have a drink and a good chat. Pat would love you to come along.’

“What time are you meeting?’

“Say seven thirty at the “Waterfront bar.’

“Alright I will come.’

“Good man.’

“Ralph could you do me a favour?’

Yes old man just ask.’

“Can you get hold of Doreen’s autopsy report for me?’
