“Now then we have a man here who was only fifteen years old when his daughter was born. He had no say in that child’s parentage because the mother died and the mother’s parents put the said child up for adoption. Is that correct?’

“Yes your honour replied both councils.’

Regardless of the legality of adoption there are grounds that as a boy at that time, Mr Gales was not old enough to not only look after the said child nor support that child also. I hereby order that Mr Gales be allowed to see his daughter each weekend from nine o’clock until five that evening. A collection point to be agreed by both parties.’

“We strongly object your honour, given that the father has not made contact with his daughter in nearly seven years.’ The child has now bonded with her adoptive parents; we feel these visitation rights would have a detrimental effect upon the child.’

“Noted councillor, but I am going to allow Mr Gales time to establish a bond between him and his daughter;’” case dismissed.’

All rise.’

“So that is it then said Gordon to Ralph we just allow him to come and take Dawn every week as he pleases.’

“For the moment yes; we have no choice. It is really up to Dawn, if she feels that she does not want to see her biological father then we can do something about that.’

“What if in six months down the line he wants custody of Dawn what do we do then?’

“Then we return to court and fight this out.’

The press bombarded them with flashing cameras as the rushed to get into the car that was waiting and then drove away.

Jim Gales on the other hand milked the publicity saying that he was delighted that he was now going to see his daughter.’ They asked him if he wanted his child back and he replied “if this was your child wouldn’t you.’

Any plans for a reunion Jim someone asked. I never rule anything out so who knows.’

“I am still writing music so you never know.’ He got into his sports car and drove away.’

Driving home Gordon was furious, the judge wasn’t very sympathetic towards us was he?’

“What did you expect darling we are only Dawn’s adoptive parents; Jim Gales is her real father.’

“Yes but did look after her, change her and sit with her night after night when she was ill; no he didn’t.’

“You haven’t asked me what I want said Dawn in the back of the car.’

“Sorry darling we thought that you didn’t want to see your father.’

“Well that was then and this is now.’

“I see said Dorothy so you would like to see your father then?’

“I guess, I would just to see what he’s like.’

“Alright then I will contact his solicitor and arrange for him to pick you up next Saturday if that is what you really want.’

“I don’t know what I want daddy, I just need to meet this man and get to know him.’

The car reached their house and they all got out again they were hounded by the press who were waiting outside.

“Care to give us your side of the story Mr Laws.’

Gordon ignored the press and shepherded his wife and daughter into the house and closed the door.
