Heather Reid a sixteen year old girl is found collapsed in Howdon - she has run away from her home on West Percy road North Shields, because she is pregnant. She is taken to Willington Quay Maternity hospital where upon she gives birth to a baby Girl that she names Dawn because the dawn was breaking when she was giving birth. After complications set in Heather dies of Toxaemia and her father will not bring up a bastard child. Dawn is adopted by two university lecturers - follow her story as her real father seeks her out and a court battle ensues. this is a tragic story that will have you reading until the end.

“Yes, its good tonight Brian; that Bobby Hooper had me in stitches.’

Alan Young sat on the stage and the machine was switched on and the balls with ninety numbers on them were blown around into the machine. “Right ladies and gentlemen and our special guests; its bingo time.’ Get your pens ready and eyes down your first number; One and seven seventeen, Five and four fifty four. One and nine nineteen, on its own one little duck number two; “Quack shouted a woman in the audience.’ Three and eight thirty eight, one, and six sweet sixteen, all the three’s thirty three.’ On its own number four, eight and two eighty two, “Here shouted someone; immediately one of the committee men went to the table and checked the numbers with the caller. “ Well done you have just won yourself fifty pounds.’

“We carry on now for a full house for one hundred pounds.’ Alan called out the numbers until seventy two numbers had been called and Alwen shouted house.’

I cannot believe it I’ve never won a game of bingo in my life and now I’ve won.’

The committee man on the floor checked the ticket again and she was given one hundred pounds which she put into her bag.

They played three games and the last flyer was worth one hundred for the line and five hundred pounds for the house; it was the biggest amount of money ever played for at a social club anywhere.’ Alice got the first four numbers on a line and was waiting of number six; twelve numbers came out and number six wasn’t among them but she only wanted four numbers for the house. Alan carried on and the first number out after that was number six.’

Sixty eight numbers were called before Alan asked if anyone was sweating.

Alice wanted number seventy two and Alan called out another five numbers before she heard him say seven and two, seventy two;

“House;’ Alice was shaking with excitement as her ticket was checked.’ Then the five hundred pounds was given to her.’

I’ve never had this much money in my hands at one time before she said.’

“Nice isn’t it gran; I remember the first time I spent a lot of money in one go and it was exhilarating.’ Well I don’t know about that but I think I nearly needed some incontinence panties.’

“Can I get you all a drink?’

“Our drinks are all taken care of gran so put it into your purse.’

“When the box draw wasn’t won the band returned to do their second spot and again there was people dancing in the aisles. Jim Gales waited until the cheering stopped before announcing that the group were now going to sing their number one single “Going to leave you a memory” written by Dawn Gales; his daughter.’

“The crowd gave warm round of applause before Mick Garitty played the intro and Jim began to sing. The crowd fell silent as the ballad was sung; her father urged his daughter on stage where there sang the last verse and the chorus together which brought the house down with people cheering.’ They did several songs from the new album. Then Dawn sang “if you could read my lips.’ with her father.’

They finished the night with “one summer.’ But the crowd kept on whistling and they came back on stage and did another two songs before finally taking a bow.’

“Now that’s how you close a show said Brian as the crowd tried to get them to come out again.’

“Always leave them wanting more he said with a satisfied smile as time was called at the bar. Alwen, Alice, and Tracey handed out food to the audience to take home for
