Ring! Ring! Ring!
The girls gathered around me. I turned my phone on speaker. Mother always made them laugh, somehow. I guess that the fact that she was honest and not all that motherly, maybe?
"Hello?" Mother answered. She talked like she was exhausted.
I started talking. "Hey, Mother! I just wanted to say that-"
"Oh, sorry, babe. I knew that you wouldn't make it, honestly. But there's always next time," she said.
"We MADE IT!" I yelled happily into the phone.
Mother cursed, laughed, then coughed. "Wait, it's a joke, right?"
"Nope, Turn Around MADE IT! WE'RE GOING TO THE NEXT ROUND, MOTHER!"
Silence on the other end.
Suddenly there was a happy sound on the other end of a phone that was something between a giggle, a scream, and a sob.
"My baby made it! My baby and her little friends made it to the second round with the best!" she cried.
"Yeah, Mother. Hey, look, I gotta go. I've got to go running around the audition room. Talk to you later! Oh, and tomorrow, you'll probably have to sign a lot of contracts and that stuff, so be prepared. Love ya bunches!" I said.
"Love ya too, babe!" I could hear the smile in Mother's voice.
I hung up to the faint screams of Mother.
I looked at the other girls. "I'm going to explore the room."
"Feeling friendly for once?" Jay laughed.
I smiled my crooked smile and walked away.
I passed dozens of crying girls and boys that looked down. They must've failed.
None of them really caught my attention until there were these four girls, two of them with makeup piled on and two of them with no makeup. They had very elaborate jumpsuits that looked almost to be emanating light.
I walked up to them and caught their attention by tapping on one of their's backs. They turned around.
"Hello, my name is Alana. I'm from the dancing group called Turn Around. What're your names?" I asked.
The tallest girl with too much makeup smiled. "Oh, hallo, Alana. My name is Endre. This is Claudia"- she pointed to the small girl with black eyes and platinum hair-"this is Terri"- she pointed to a rather chubby girl with honeydew eyes and un-natural electric blue hair-"and this is Lei." Endre pointed to a medium-sized girl who had blue eyes and black hair one streak of blonde in it. "She's my sister."
"Nice to meet you all," I said,"and what was your act?"
"Oh, it was Rising. We're a band, and we passed to the next round," said Endre.
"That's great! So is my dance group!" I said happily. "I'm sure they'd love to meet you all, you sound so agreeable. I think that they should meet you all later."
Endre smiled. "Why don't we follow both of you right now to your band?"
I was confused. "Both of us?"
"The pretty boy behind you is not with you?" she asked.
I spun around. There stood the boy from the band that Calum was from.
He looked surprised, then smiled. "Oh, I thought you were an old friend. Sorry 'bout that...name's Michael, yours?"
I fumbled at my words. "My name is Rosemary- I mean, Alana! Rosemary's my first name."
The girls tapped me on the back. I guess they took this as an incentive to leave us, because they said, "See you later."
"See ya!" I turned back to Michael.
Michael smiled. "Are those from your group?"
"Naw, just some friends. My group's over there with those other guys from your group. Oh, and do you like compliments?" I said.
"I.... love your blue hair!" I gushed. I was going to say that I liked his face, but, oh, well, I was so awkward right then.
"Thanks, had it dyed a while ago. Could I tell you something?" he laughed. Oh, he's doing the same thing that I did to him.
I shrugged and smiled.
"That suit looks good on you," he said. Real charmer, that one is. Is he usually like this?
There was a pause.
"I loved your song that you played on the stage," I said. "What'd you say the name of your band was?"
"I didn't. But it's called 5 Seconds of Summer," said Michael.
"Nice catch to it. Our dance group's called Turn Around. Want to come meet them? The guys from your band're over there, too."
"Sure," chuckled Michael. He was agreeable and pleasant, but something told me he was someone like me, a rebel, a fighter.
We walked for a second, but Michael stopped me for a second. "Oh, yeah, and what'd you say your name was again?"
"No, no, no, you said something different at the beginning," he said.
I sighed. "Oh, my first name? Rosemary."
Michael thought for a second. "Mind if I call you that?"
"How about Mary, then?"
"Some one in Turn Around's name is Mari."
"Uh, how about Rose, then?"
I thought for a second. "Yeah, I like that. Call me Rose- oh, but everyone else has to call me Alana."
He laughed. "Ok, Rose, lead the way to your group!"
My prediction was right- the next day was filled with files, contracts, papers, and consent forms. None of our parents were going. We had all convinced them that we were responsible enough to take care of ourselves. Also, wouldn't it be awkward, being in the condo room (provided and payed for by the TBBTWW) with eight people? Plus, Mother probably wouldn't approve of us renting the condo beside the guys of 5 Seconds of Summer.
The last person for with contract was a woman. Mother signed it, and the woman cleared her throat and said shortly, "They will be departing tomorrow at 3 a.m.. SHARP." Then the lady left.
This should be fun, I thought.
