Brat Facts

I come from this close-knit family of Brats.
Military Brats, that is.

We go through all of the horrors a military family entails. We face the hardships of our parent being gone for many months at a time and having to learn how to be strong without them.
Sometimes. . . It's a nightmare.

But despite all of the troubled skies that we most often have to face, I know I wouldn't trade this life for anything.

31. Fact 25: Having To Deal With A Long Distance Relationship.

Look, I know Brats have to witness either their mom or dad sitting at the computer after a long day at work, talking to their partner over Skype; venting out their problems and day at work to each other. For the Brats, not only do we see this, but some of us deal with our own little long distance relationship as well.

Three years ago, I met someone who I did not realize would mean the world to me. His name is Q. Or, well, that's his nickname. I met him in eighth grade and we hated each other. We got into high school and didn't even start talking again until the very end of Freshmen year.

Sophomore year rolls around and I have the same German class with Q.

This is when all the flirting started to happen. He would hold my hand, play with my hair, and one time he kissed the back of my hand. Oh, did I mention that I was dating an asshole of a senior at the time? No? Ok.

So during that school year we did our own things but still tried to talk everyday. I got his number and we didn't talk a lot, but when the Asshole broke up with me, I had a massive break down and I think that was one of the times Q saw me at my worst. After that day, we talked all the time. Whether it was in person or over text.

On April 7th, 2014, I asked Q to be my boyfriend. And we have been together for 863 days (So around two years). Despite all the odds--all the negative hate from others--and a move, we've stayed strong. My advice to anyone who is going through all the same trouble, stay strong and don't give up. You've got this. And your long distance relationship can survive.
