Brat Facts

I come from this close-knit family of Brats.
Military Brats, that is.

We go through all of the horrors a military family entails. We face the hardships of our parent being gone for many months at a time and having to learn how to be strong without them.
Sometimes. . . It's a nightmare.

But despite all of the troubled skies that we most often have to face, I know I wouldn't trade this life for anything.

14. Fact 12: Being A Chameleon.

I cannot for the life of me remember who told me this, but it was right around the time I was moving(Again) and I was stressing about it, but someone told me to be like a chameleon.

At first I didn't really understand, like what did this person want me to do? Make my eyes go bug-eyed and slowly climb tree branches?

I found out, that no, that's not what they meant.

And they explained it to me.

"Chameleons are always changing color. Adapting to their environment." They said. "Think about it. What is something a military brat is known for doing well?"

It took me a second to get it, but out of all the times I've moved, I've always gotten used to the new place in no time. Sure it took me a little while to make new friends, but I was always familiar with my new town within a matter of 2 weeks.

And then I slowly nodded. Be a chameleon. Adapt to your new environment.

I understood what they meant. And it's something I've tried to live by since whenever this person told me this bit of advice.
