1. Make Me Understand

He had sneaked the note into her potions book that morning, in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Now it was their fifth class of the day: Potions.

Draco kept waiting for her to open the textbook and find the note. When she did, he stared, trying to make out her facial expressions, which proved to be quite difficult due to her being three rows ahead of him and not sitting at an angle in the slightest.

He didn't sign the note; he wanted it to be as vague and mysterious as possible. That, and if she knew who it was from, she wouldn't respond.

As he suspected, and hoped, she would, she met him in an alcove just outside the stairway that lead to the tallest tower. The one where Divination---which in Draco's opinion was bollocks---classes were held.

She approached the alcove---just like the note said to---after the last class of the day. She looked around. "Hello?" she ventured when she spotted nobody around.

"Glad you could make it," a voice said, then paused. Hermione squinted into the darkness, trying to discern who it was. She didn't figure it out---or have enough time to calculate a possible guess as to who it was---before he resumed speaking, uttering a single word: "Granger."

"Malfoy." the Gryffindor spat bitterly as he emerged from the shadows.

"Don't hex.... or punch me!" he rushed out when he noticed her wand at the ready. "This is important."

She narrowed her eyes skeptically, yet lowered her wand slightly, but Draco took it as permission to talk. Maybe Hermione noticed the unusual softness in his tone, or the gentle look in his eyes that were never before present when he spoke to her. Nonetheless, she listened.

What she heard, though, was not what was expected.

He hid it well, but Draco was nervous, and he could not deny himself that his palms were sweaty, clammy, and gross, and that his stomach was doing flips as if it were in the circus. He was going to try and make her understand.

He apologized---for everything, ever. He didn't stop or pause once, even when he ran a slightly shaky hand through his platinum blonde hair.

Draco Malfoy apologized. Hermione Granger listened.

An hour later, the two students stood in silence. A long, deafening silence. Tension. Draco had finished speaking a few moments ago, but it felt like an eternity had gone by.

Eventually, Hermione spoke. "Okay," she said expressionless, not looking at the Slytherin.

"Okay? That's it? I just spent a whole bloody hour saying I'm sorry for every bloody thing I've ever done to you and your friends, _and_---though it was by accident---admitted I have fancied you the whole damn time...then all you have to say...is _'okay'_?" Draco's face was red with frustration and he looked about ready to snap his own wand over his knee. He took a deep breath. "Okay?" he said exasperated, but calmer.

"Okay," she replied with a wry smile playing at her lips. The brown-haired girl then started laughing.

"The hell is so funny?" Draco snarled, clenching his fists and trying not to let himself get so angry he'd explode.

"Nothing," Hermione said when the laughing stopped shortly after he asked the question. "It's just...if you weren't a pureblood or more into Muggle culture, you'd understand that I was more than accepting your apology."

Draco looked completely puzzled and all he could find to say was "what?"

She just shook her head. "Honestly, Ferret...you're so dense."

Then, before he could respond, she was kissing him. And he was kissing her right back.

It had taken him off guard and he was in a daze when they broke apart. Her arms had ended up around his neck; his landed on her hips.

Draco had no words. He looked down---he was a few inches taller than her, always was---at her and she was gazing at him, smiling. Stormy-grey met honey-brown. Hermione spoke first, "I'm sorry as well, Draco. Her voice was soft, but she was not whispering. She took a deep breath and smiled, a small smile, but a smile that still spread to her eyes and lit up her entire face. A smile Draco had never seen on her before. "I've wanted to do that since forever, even if you were a git."

He smiled---something Hermione had never actually seen. It was breathtakingly beautiful, as was he.  He slowly reached up and cupped her face in his hands and rubbed his thumbs against her temples and cheeks. She adjusted herself to be more comfortable and rested her hands on his chest. They didn't break eye contact.

Before he kissed her, he whispered into her ear, three words. Words to which she replied "okay" with a grin.

They stayed in that alcove for a bit---talking, kissing, and, for the most part, sitting in comfortable, and blissful silence.

The Princess of Gryffindor and Prince of Slytherin were finally together, as it was meant to be.

|| Hope you enjoyed my new short one-shot Dramione fic! :D I wrote it at like midnight last night :3 I will take a request for a one-shot story (of any kind, as long as it is in my fandoms) to whoever can guess the three words Draco whispered in her ear. Hint: It is not "I love you". ||

|| I take requests anyway! :) But if you guess correctly, yours is guaranteed to come! ||
