19. Chapter 19

I would have to get the kids that I found, and get out of this town.  It was no longer safe; there could be more people, and I don’t like confutation.   I didn’t like to kill people, however hard that may be to believe.

When I got back to where I had the kids stay, and like all kids, they were fighting.  This isn’t what I wanted to deal with, and certainly wasn’t going to deal with.  Konner started the fight, he was the biggest kid, and the biggest threat to me.  I don’t like killing people, but this was best for me, Tyler, and Jaden.

This would open their eyes; it would show them who was in charge.  When I shot, they didn’t know what had happened; I didn’t either, it happened so fast.  His body lied lifeless on the warm asphalt.

We left shortly after, they didn’t want to go with a murderer.  They learned that you move when you have a gun to you.  When I’m in charge, you don’t make the decisions; I do.

I would travel the several miles back through Hopewell, then go to Saxton.  My house was still smoking, the woods around my home was on fire.

I haven’t eaten in a while; I was skinny; I have never saw my abdominal muscles before.  If I soon didn’t find something to eat, I would die.  I was too far along in the game to die now.

I couldn’t go hunting, I don’t trust Jayden or Tyler.  I could find food in a restaurant or something.  Hunger is the number one killer in an apocalypse.

Once I found food, I would share it with the kids I would eventually treat like my children.  I was a father figure to them now; they had no one since this all went down.

Unfortunately, I would have to return back to camp sooner than I planned.  I would find a place to stay for the night, and leave for Maryland in the morning.

That is how this all works, everything happens in the morning; mainly because the freaks come out more at night.

They have a power to since fear; one thing I have not had to deal with, but tonight would be different.  Tonight I would have to worry about the fear of both Tyler and Jaden.  They would be scared; though they didn’t need to be, they were with the smartest, and strongest person in the battle against the freaks.

We saw an old hotel; it was one that was personally owned.  It was a little run down, but it was suitable for them and me.  All light must be out by dusk.
