The Opposite of Attraction

Ever since grade four Damon and Sophia have been sworn enemies.

Now it's senior year and they're still throwing insult after insult at each other. Everyone knows that when they're in the same room all hell will break loose. Even the teachers knew not to put them in the same class.

Well at least all but one. Mr. Willis being the crazy teacher he is purposely choose these two to be in the same class. Everyone said that them being in the same room for a year would be a disaster waiting to happen.

What they all didn't expect was for Damon and Sophia to grow closer than ever.

Sophia's P.O.V:

Today's the day of Dylan's big game, and I have to say, I'm not that excited.

Ever since Damon and I have been getting along, I've been losing my feelings for Dylan. I just don't like him as much as I use to, but I still like home enough to date him.

If only we went on more dates and spent more time together. We've been dating for a little while now and he's only taken me on one date, and all together we've only hung out maybe six times at the most.

Damon and I have hung out together more times than Dylan and I have.

And to be honest, I enjoy hanging out with Damon more than Dylan.

For the past couple weeks Damon and I have been hanging out almost every day, to do our project of course, and we haven't even had that many arguments.

If someone would have told me a month ago that Damon and I would be friends and that I would enjoy his company, I would have laughed in their face and brought them to a mental hospital.

"You excited for tonight's game?" Garrett asked, startling me.

I was currently in my bedroom, thinking instead of getting ready like I was suppose to.

"How did you get in?" I asked, I know for sure that I didn't let him in and my parents were visiting Victoria right now.

"The spare key under the flower pot by the front door." he explained as he plopped down onto my bed beside me.

"Oh ya." I forgot I showed him where the spare key was hidden.

"So back to my earlier question, are you excited for the game? Because I sure am!" Garrett said happily, lightly bouncing on the bed beside me.

Sometimes he really reminded me of a toddler.

I nodded my head with fake enthusiasm "I'm more than excited for the game."

"Me too! Oh wait, I already said that." He squealed.

I swear the only time he acts some what gay is when we're in private, and I loved it. Its always nice to know that someone was one hundred percent comfortable with you.

But what bothered me about Garrett right now was the he couldn't tell that I was lying about being excited for the game.

I knew if it were Damon asking me, and I gave him the answer I gave Garrett, he would see right through my lie immediately.

But maybe that's just because Damon's known me longer than Garrett.

"Girl why do you keep spacing out? You need to get ready so we can leave." Garrett said, waving a hand in front of my face to get my attention.

"Ok, ok. I'll get ready." I mumbled as I got off my bed and headed to my closet.

I changed out of my shorts and tank top, and into a pair of skinny jeans and a thick black tank top, then I pulled on a grey cardigan, since it was much cooler in the evening than in the daytime.

I stepped out of my closet so Garrett could examine my outfit, when he nodded in approval, I slipped on a pair of grey pumps and walked downstairs with Garrett.

We decided to take his car, so that if I happened to go anywhere with Dylan after the game, he wouldn't have to find someone else to drive him home.

In no time we were at the school and walking towards the back.

Unlike any other school, ours had a really good outdoors basketball court that we used for games instead of the gym one.

The only bad thing about this outside court is that when someone falls, they usually end up bleeding.

"This is so exiting, our team taking on our rivals. Hopefully we win, if we don't win on our own turf, that'll be humiliating." Garrett rambled as we made our way to the front row seats.

"Ya, humiliating." I muttered, looking around for any familiar faces.

We were pretty early though so not many people were here yet.

"Is this seat taken?" a familiar male voice asked from beside me.

I looked over at him and grinned, "Someone by the name of Damon is sitting there." I told him.

"What a coincidence, my name just so happens to be Damon." he said with fake shock.

"Well I guess you can sit there then." I told him, patting the seat.

"I thought you guys didn't get along." Garrett suddenly said from beside me.

For a second I forgot he was even there.

"We got over that." I told him.

He looked sceptical but didn't push the subject further.

"Ya, we're way over that. I could even go as far as saying that Soph and I are pretty tight." Damon said sarcastically, putting his arm over my shoulder.

I playfully pushed his arm off me and turned to Garrett, who was gaping at us.

Is it really that shocking to see Damon and I getting along?

There was an uncomfortable silence that fell over us, but thankfully that didn't last long because Dylan came over to greet me.

"Hey babe." he said, pecking me on the lips.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Damon tense.

What's that all about, I thought Dylan and him were friends?

"Hey." I muttered, embarrassed that he kissed me in front of my friends.

"You got some nice seats." he commented, looking around.

When his eyes landed on Damon he got a curious look on his face, probably wondering why we were sitting together.

You would think in the few weeks that Damon and I have been getting along, the school would realize that we were actually friends but no, they still thought we hated each other.

Ya, I hate Damon so much that I smile and joke around with him all the time.

That totally makes sense.

Thankfully instead of asking questions, Dylan greeted Damon with a causal "Hay man." To which Damon replied with a quick stiff nod.

"Well I better get back to my team, they need their fearless leader." Dylan said.

I chuckled, "Good luck."

"Thanks babe" he called over his shoulder as he made his way back to the team.

"That was so cute. You're one lucky girl!" Garrett exclaimed in a whisper.

"Ya." I said with little enthusiasm.

"If you're not happy, why don't you just break up with him?" Damon whispered in my ear.

I jumped at his sudden closeness, and heard him chuckle.

"I still like him, I just wish he acted different sometimes." I told Damon, but I didn't know if I was trying to convince him, or myself.

"Who are you trying to convince here?" He asked, as if he just read my thoughts.

I have him a bewildered look and shook me head.

Thankfully before this conversation could go any further, the basketball game started.

- - - - - -

"Go Dylan go!" Garrett screamed from beside me as he jumped and pumped his fists in the air.

There was no more then mere seconds in the game and our team was up by quite a few points, so it was obvious we were gonna win but Garrett just didn't get that.

For the whole game Garrett had screamed his lungs out like he was right now, and you don't even want to know how crazy he got when our team got a basket.

The buzzer signalling that the game was over finally went off and the crowd went wild. Our team had finally defeated our rivalling team for the first time in six years.

Damon and I just clapped while Garrett went totally ballistic.

Remind me again why I'm friends with this guy?

"I'm gonna go congratulate the team." I told Damon and Garrett, and without waiting for a reply I walked away.

They were all heading into the change room when I found them.

Dylan saw me and yelled "Party at my house in an hour!" Then to me he said in his normal tone "And you better be there." with that he shot me a wink and entered the change room.

Bossy jerk.

I decided to wait outside the change room for Dylan instead of going back out into the crowd and trying to find Garrett.

"What are you doing over here?" Damon suddenly asked, scaring the crap out of me.

"Don't just sneak up on me like that!" I scolded, placing a hand on my chest over my racing heart.

He chuckled but didn't comment.

"And I'm here waiting for Dylan."

He nodded and leaned on the wall beside the changing room door.

Suddenly there was a commotion from inside the room and some guys piled out.

"Do you think Dylan's gonna win the bet?" one guy asked.

"Sure, she's already his girlfriend, there no reason why he wouldn't win." another guy commented.

"But it's Sophia, she's famous for being untouchable." the first guy pointed out.

This caught my interest, what bet? Did Dylan make a bet that involved me? What was the bet? It can't be too bad right?

"You're right, he'll never get her to sleep with him, I'm totally winning that two hundred dollars." the second guy said happily.

My jaw dropped, Dylan made a bet that he could get me to sleep with him.

I looked over at Damon who was silently fuming.

My eyes started stinging as tears pooled in my eyes, threatening to fall.

Then Dylan himself walked out of the change room.

Before I had a chance to say anything to him, he was already pinned up agains the wall.

Without a word Damon punched him right in the face.

"What the hell was that for?" Dylan yelled.

"For making that bet." Damon snarled.

Realization took over Dylan's features, but was soon replaced with a pained look when Damon punched him again.

After Damon delivered several more punched to various areas of Dylan's body, I realized that he wasn't gonna stop any time soon.

I had to stop this one sided fight myself.

I ran up to them and started tugging on the back of Damon's shirt.

"Stop Damon! That's enough!" I yelled.

"He deserves this." Damon hissed.

"You already hurt him, if you don't stop you'll kill him!" I yelled back.

I didn't realize until now that tears were streaming down my face, and I guess Damon realized it too because he let go of Dylan, who fell to the ground in an unconscious heap of patheticness, and folded me into his arms.

"I'm sorry." he whispered a few times.

I nodded and hugged him back, and that's all it took for me to forget all about what Dylan did and calm down.

"Lets get out of here." Damon suggested as he pulled away.

I nodded and whipped away the last remains of tears with the back of my hand.

To my surprise Damon took my hand and started dragging me towards his car.

The fact that he was holding my hand didn't surprise me, but the sparks it sent through my body sure did.

What the hell is happening to me?

We got to Damon's car a short while later and he opened the door for me. Since when was he a gentlemen?

Maybe he was just being nice since he knew I was upset.

Ya that's it.

I clambered into the passenger seat and he closed the door then hurried into the drivers side and started the car.

As we drove home in a comfortable silence, Damon turned on the radio just as Hallelujah came on.

I smiled recalling the memory of us singing this together when Damon showed me that he really could play instruments.

I looked over at Damon to see that he had a smile on his face too, probably recalling the same memory.

I started singing softly to the song and he soon joined in.

To my disappointment we pulled into his driveway not long after.

We both got out of the car and looked over at each other.

"Would you like to come in?" Damon asked, looking at the ground and scratching the back of his neck, two things he does when he's nervous.

He's cute when he's nervous, if only I knew why he was nervous in the first place.

"Sure, why not." I said, shrugging.

He looked up at me and smiled, then together we walked into his house.

"Is that you Damon?" Mrs. Blake called from somewhere, probably the kitchen, it seems like she's there a lot.

"Ya mom." Damon called back.

Mrs. Blake's head suddenly popped out of the kitchen door.

"Oh hey Sophia." she greeted me.

"Hey Mrs. Blake." I said, giving her a small wave.

"What did he do this time?" she asked, which wasn't surprising. almost every other time I've been here its been because Damon had done something to piss me off.

"Surprisingly noting for once. I think I've finally got him under control." I told her, a big grin taking over my face when I saw Damon shoot me a glare.

"Oh that's nice, it's about time you two were together, I knew you would be able to straighten him out." Damon's mom commented.

I choked on the air I was breathing and I think Damon did too, and I bet both our eyes were bugging out of our heads like in cartoons.

"It's not like that." Damon stated quickly.

"So you two are keeping it a secret for now, that's cute." She cood, and before we could argue she was gone.

"Uh." was all I could mutter, I was completely speechless.

"Lets just pretend that never happened." Damon suggested.

I nodded eagerly.

After that the awkwardness Mrs. Blake created disappeared and Damon and I went up to his room to hang out.

Today has been the strangest day of my life, and I had a feeling from now on I would be having lost of those.
