It’s funny, isn’t it?
How people lie,
About one of the biggest things in your life,
One minute it’s all forever and always,
Next it’s like you’re a part of the wall.

Sometimes the words I love you,
Don’t mean I love you,
They’re just a filler in the gap,
The space where there should be a heart.

You search for the answer to why,
Drive yourself mad with the thoughts,
Because you feel like it’s your fault,
But you know you gave everything.

They’re the ones that threw it all away,
The happiness, love, memories,
They’re the ones who got up and left,
Just their actions show that before they open their mouth,
You know what’s coming.

Un-replied to messages,
Then finally a blunt reply,
Because everyone knows ok is the answer to everything,
Isn’t it?

Being pushed away,
When all you’re trying to do is be there,
Because you’re trying so hard,
Can’t they see that?

When you say I love you,
Then they lie and say it back,
Because that doesn’t hurt at all,
Does it?

You read over the messages,
Replay scenes in your head,
Searching for something to tell you what went wrong,
But you know you won’t find it.

It just happens,
Like everything in life,
It happens when it happens,
Like turning off a light,
Click and it’s dark,
Instantly,
But the brightness still lingers,
Burning behind your eye lids.

They hurt you,
You feel the pain inside of you,
Like it’s physically pulled your heart out of place,
But you know it was going to happen.

You tried,
That’s what you keep telling yourself,
And you’re right,
You did try.

It’s not that your I love you wasn’t enough,
It’s not that you did something wrong,
It’s their I love you that didn’t mean anything,
It’s their words that sent it spiralling down.

You don’t have to say sorry,
You don’t have to hurt,
But you do both,
Because you just feel a bit hopeless now.

You look back on everything,
When people all around you tell you to look forward,
But it’s harder than they think,
No matter how much they hurt you,
There’s still a part which you miss.

But you tell yourself to hate them,
Tell yourself to forget,
But you never quite do,
Because they’re stuck in your memories now,
There’s no way you can erase your past.

And you might feel bad about it,
Sometimes when you’re all alone,
But then you stop and think,
They never loved me anyway.

Sometimes the words I love you,
Don’t mean I love you,
They’re just a filler in the gap,
The space where there should be a heart.

It’s funny, isn’t it?
How people lie,
About one of the biggest things in your life,
One minute it’s all forever and always,
Next it’s like you’re a part of the wall.

Then you think to yourself about it all,
Slowly you realise,
You’re better off without them,
Because there will be someone who truly says I love you back,
Someday.
