9. Of Friendly Advice. And Threats

The two skeletons stood at one edge of the bridge, watching the human slowly make their way across the wooden planks. Frisk's expression appeared relaxed, but every so often their hands would twitch and tighten into fists, and their expression would twist for a second. And then it was all normal. And then they would flinch again.

“AHEM! HUMAN!” Papyrus called out, waving his arms wildly. Sans stood to the side, hands in his pockets. “THIS IS YOUR FINAL AND MOST DANGEROUS CHALLANGE!”

Spikes descended. A dog barked, wiggling back and forth on the rope he was tied too.

“CANNONS WILL FIRE!”

Frisk smiled.

“SPIKES WILL SWING!”

Flames licked up from a pedestal. A cannon pointed straight at them.

“I!”

“AM!”

“ABOUT!”

“TO!”

“DO IT!”

Papyrus didn't move.

“Uh, bro?” Sans' finger itched to pull up a Gaster Blaster, to thrust a couple hundred bones, to decimate their SOUL for what this being had done to Papyrus in past... realities.

“OH, WHO CARES!” said Papyrus loudly. “YOU'LL PROBABLY JUST WALK THROUGH IT ANYWAYS. LIKE YOU'VE DONE TO ALL MY PUZZLES. YOU KNOW,” Papyrus began to pace back and forth. “PUZZLES ARE AN EXCELLENT WAY TO MAKE FRIENDS! JUST LOOK AT ME!” He threw his hand up in the air. “I HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS, MUCH MORE THAN YOU! ALL BECAUSE OF PUZZLES! MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY SOME! NYEH HEHEHEHEHEHEH!” Papyrus stormed off, leaving deep imprints in the snow.

Sans watched his brother carefully as he walked away. He nearly didn't notice Frisk walking up in front of him, staring hard. Sans looked over, barely concealing his shock.

Frisk's face twitched. Their gloves had disappeared, and they were now holding a pointed stick, Sans noticed.

“So,” Sans continued smoothly. “I've been thinking. It seems like you're going to be fighting my brother pretty soon.”

Frisk spoke. “So what if I do?”

Sans smiled. “Here's some friendly advice.”

“I don't want your 'friendly advice', Sans,” sneered Frisk. “I've heard it all before. It's all the same, again and again, and I'm tired, Sans. I'm tired of the same, boring lines.” They stared deep into San' empty eye sockets. “But you know this, right? Or don't you? It's different every time,” they laughed. “But it seems especially different this time. Can't quite put my finger on it...” they placed their finger on their chin, and laughed. “I could mess this timeline up completely, right now. I know I can. I could kill you right now.” Their hand tightened around the stick. “You don't have much HOPE left, do you? One touch would be all it would take...” they smiled again.

Sans' fingers were shaking. His eye glowed a bright blue. “You seem to be looking around to have a bad time, friend.” Bones trembled underneath the surface.

Frisk stepped back, a look of fear crossing their face for the first time. “C'mon now, friend. I didn't say I would. I said I could.”

“Yeah, and if you touch Papyrus, I'll coming flying after you and shove this bone through your heart,” Sans growled harshly.

Frisk laughed. “You only wish you could. You can only break this world's rules if I do first. Now, why don't you just... teleport away to your lovely bro. BEFORE I GET TO HIM FIRST.

Sans frowned. “I never gave you my friendly advice.”

“You... did I not just tell you that I don't care?” Frisk frowned.

“If you keep going the way you are now, trying to kill my brother, hurting the people I call my friends...” A bone, sharpened to a point, erupted from the ground. Its point leveled at Frisk's chest, exactly where their SOUL rested.

Y O U ' R E G O N N A H A V E A B A D T I M E .”

Sans disappeared.
