“Are you sure this is what you want to do son?’

“I’ve never been more certain in my whole life mam’

It was six thirty when Ronnie knocked and Roger’s mother asked him to come in.

“Just go in Ronnie lad he’s in his room.’

Ronnie knocked and then went in.’

“Alreet matey; what’s up.’

Well prepare yourself Ronnie mate because next Friday we’re off to Lympstone in Devon to join the Royal Marine Commandos.’

“Really Ronnie asked.’

“I kid you not sonna’ we are going mate. Both lads embraced one another then said together “all for one, and one for all.’

Roger wrote down what they would need to take and he said that it only left them three more runs to do before they would be leaving to join up.’

“Have you told Brenda yet?’

“No, I will tell her tomorrow when I see her.’

“I cannot believe it mate after all we’ve been through together it has finally come and we are going.’

I will ring the train station and find out the times of the trains to Lympstone; we are being met at 400 hours by the duty officer so I would guess that the train journey is between five and six hours. So that means ten a.m. at Newcastle Central. That will give us plenty time to get our tickets and find the platform.’

“Aye and grab a burger from McDonalds.’

“Trust you to think of your gob first.’

“We have got to ring Sergeant Connolly to tell him.’

“Yes I will do that now.’

“Mam can I use the phone again to ring Sergeant Connolly.’

“Here son said Roger’s mam as she brought the phone to his bedroom.

Roger dialled the number that the Sergeant had given him and waited.’

“Sergeant Connolly speaking, how can I help?’

“It’s me Roger Fox Sir, I am just ringing to tell you that Ronnie Harris, and I will be going down to Lympstone this Friday coming.’
