“Yes mam it was fabulous.’

“Come on tell us all about it then.’

“Well we went to the pictures to see “Rain Man” the movie then we had a lovely meal mother in the hotel restaurant.

“You didn’t get drunk again did you?’

“No mother; you sound as if I was some kind of alcoholic.’

“Well you know what lads are like they take advantage of girls when they’ve had a few.’

“No one took advantage of me mother I assure you.’

“We had separate rooms.’ She lied.’

Brenda went to her bedroom and wrote in her diary. Friday the sixth of July had the best night of my life,’ she closed the book and put it back in her drawer.’

“When Roger called on Ronnie; Connie told him that he’d gone out.’

“Thanks Connie, see you later.’

Roger knew exactly where he was and he’d be eating another Hungry Harris as well he guessed.’

Now that both Ronnie and him were both eighteen they could now go and enlist. There was nothing stopping both of them now.

Roger picked up the telephone once he’d told his mother about his night out with Brenda. He dialled the number for Lympstone training centre in Devon and asked to speak with the duty officer. Once through he spoke to a John Evans who informed him that he would need to come down to Devon and to bring kit with him.

“He said that he’d be coming with friend who also wanted to join the Royal Marines.’

“You will be met at the station and escorted to the training centre here in Lympstone.

“Please be dressed smartly; preferably in a suit and tie and a white shirt.’

Roger thanked the duty officer then hung up.

“Well mam this is it; Ronnie and I will be going down to Lympstone in Devon next Friday.’

“You will have to tell your boss at Formica then.

“I know mother; first thing Monday morning.
