on her thigh and she on his he felt the silky smoothness of it under the skirt that she was wearing. When Ronnie returned he had been to the bar and brought more drinks for everyone. “If I drink anymore coke I’m going to explode.’

Have a beer then if you wish Ronnie; just because I’m drinking coke doesn’t mean you have to.’

“Just the one then okay mate.’

Ronnie went back to the bar and came back with a pint of lager he sipped on it then smacked his lips together. “You know I have been gagging for a pint for weeks.’

“I didn’t know you drank Ron.’

“Yes, my dad lets me have a can or two when my mother’s out. I’ve got the taste for it now.’

“One or two beers won’t hurt you Ron; just relax mate and enjoy yourself.’

“Are you enjoying yourself?’

“Oh yes,’ said Roger as he squeezed Brenda’s thigh under the table and she squeezed his back.

Wonderful world was played and Ann got Ronnie up again.

“I think that they like each other don’t you.’

“Yes they do; I just hope that if it does get serious that she can wait for him for the thirty two weeks that he will be away if he enlists.

“Time will tell won’t it; Speaking of time what time is it?

Roger looked at his watch then told Brenda that it was eleven forty.

“If we hurry we can catch the ten to twelve bus; I will go and tell Ann.’

Roger let Brenda out then stood up and waited until she returned with Ann and Ronnie. They made their way to the exit then hurried up the street to the bus stop.

There were a few people waiting when they got there so they knew they hadn’t missed it. A few happy drunken men and women who were chatting louder than they normally would, shuffled back and forth; the younger girls who wore next to nothing and stood with their arms folded as the cold sea breezes chilled them. Fake tan covering the redness of their skin could not hide the goose bumps across there arms.

When the bus came everyone piled on and Roger, Brenda, Ann, and Ronnie went upstairs and sat at the back.

“It’s been a really good night said Ann, we must do this again.’

Maybe next week then said Ronnie.’

“If you are up to it said Brenda; the way Roger is training you, you’ll be lucky to be alive next week end.’
