Where Staff Sergeant Sean Casey stood with a towel around himself and then told every recruit how they should shower properly. “You will shower after every exercise in here understood?’

“Yes Staff.’

He even showed them how to use a towel to dry themselves; then the use of deodorant and foot powder to prevent athlete’s foot.

“Next it was off to get their hairs cut.

“We in the Marines forbid the use of hair gel so if you have any bin it now.’

“When every recruit had had their hair cut they were marched into the hall where each one of them all took the oath to serve and protect the Queen and their heirs. Once that was done they were now the property of the Royal Marines. They were then led to the canteen where they stood in line in drill kit that they had been issued with and took a tray where they were given a meal and something to drink.’

After that they were allowed to make one phone call before being shown how to make and change their bunks. Sheets had to be washed and ironed and they were led to the wash room; shown where to wash boots and clothing before putting it into the washing machines then there was the large driers that had to be used to dry their kit off. Everyone had their own ironing board and an iron and they were meticulously shown how to iron their kit.

“Now I suggest that you all get some sleep; I want everyone ready at 500 hours in their drill kit.

“Dismissed.’

Roger wrote a short entry in his diary before addressing the others in the room.’

“May I suggest that you all get some sleep because tomorrow you will be doing a five mile speed march?’

“What on a weekend asked one of the recruits; do they not let you go for a beer like?’

“Forget about beer for the next thirty two weeks; there won’t be any.’

“Fucking hell that’s a bit steep isn’t it.’

Roger set his alarm for four thirty to give him time to get all the others ready.

As troop leader it would be up to him to teach the others how to go on.’
