2. My Life (gets ruined)

After my fall from domination, the Death Eaters dispersed and attempted to return to normal life. Many claimed I had put them under the Imperius Curse, while others stayed true to me and continued my work, most notably Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange, who were eventually taken into custody, convicted at a trial, and imprisoned in Azkaban. Most of them however, ultimately managed to remain free and to re-integrate into society.

Although I lost my physical body and magical powers, I remained alive in ghostly form. The Horcruxes I had created kept my spirit bound to the physical world. After Lily and James' deaths, I retreated to the forests of Albania, where I had previously found my fifth Horcrux, the lost diadem of Ravenclaw, and waited for my faithful Death Eaters to find me, but many of them now believed me dead, and those still faithful to me were either dead or in Azkaban. I was able to gain physical form by inhabiting snakes, though I disliked doing so because the bodies of such animals were ill-equipped to perform magic, and because possessing them significantly reduced their lifespans; none of the hosts survived for too long. Additionally, any help that I could have potentially rendered myself required the use of a wand, and animals, obviously, could not be used for this purpose.
