Come home

In a single moment he's gone. Removed from her life, against her will. And now she's searching, forever searching.

2. Reach

I clutch him in my arms. His face radiates a warm glow. His blue eyes stare at me, searching. Then he smiles. A warm sweet smile. His first smile. His tiny hands, emerge from the blankets, reaching to take my hands in his. He clasps his hands around my little finger, which only just fits. We share this moment, one of only an unfortunate few. This thought echoes through my head. To soon, it will come to soon. Tick tock, tick tock, the time will fly by. "I love you, you know that don't you. And I will love you, even when I'm gone, forever," I kiss his forehead. I don't know how many times I will get to say that. I don't know when he'll be gone.

We sit there, for what seems like minutes but turns out to be hours. Then the nurse takes him back to the incubator and tells me to rest. I know I will sleep well because I know he's safe.
