20. Monopoly and Promises

🐺Chapter Eighteen Niomi’s P.O.V🐺

I bit my tongue to stop me from yelling at Xavier and thought of a better solution then yelling and making waffles. We could play something to cheer both of us up!! Great one Niomi!

I ran over to the game cupboard where we kept our games and pulled out Xavier’s favorite game: Monopoly. When I entered the living room I noticed that Xavier hadn’t moved - at all - not even a small flinch. He barely flinched when I slammed the game down on the table in front of his face.

“Get up.” I demanded. His eyes wandered up to my face and landed on my eyes. He seemed to be digging a hole in my eyes with his imagination, not out of anger, but out of sadness and loss.

He really did love her didn’t he?

“Xavier, we just have to forget about her...she’s gone.” I continued to talk about how Paige wasn’t coming back and he continued to not listen. I watched him for a while, his head and body didn’t move or anything, he seemed to be brain dead.

I turned and shook the top of the Monopoly game off. Turning back to Xavier I noticed that he had moved to make himself more comfortable.

“What do you want to do then?” I asked while setting the pieces up.

“Leave...I don’t want to stay here. Let's go back to the pack.”

I nodded. “We can go back, but let’s forget about the good times, like meeting Paige, the amusement and figuring out that Paige was like us. We have to forget all of the good times, because those were the good times. We can also try our hardest to forget the bad times, but those will stay with us too. Xavier, we just have to move on with our lives. That way we can learn from our differences and our many mistakes that we made. Promise me that when we leave this place that you will try to forget. Promise me that you will not cherish the good times we had here. Promise that I will be the only thing you remember from this."

“I cannot promise you that." He looked at me, got up, and left me there. I yelled at him to pack. He obviously heardme because he changed his walking course.

Xavier went off to his room and started to pack while I got my clothes. I decided to leave all of the kitchen appliances here because we would just move back to where my father lived. When I finished packing I met Xavier out in the living room again.

“We should set everything here.” He pointed to a pile of bags and backpacks that was right behind the couch. “Then in the morning we can take them and leave.”

I nodded, Xavier was back to his normal self again, but I could still hear the hurt in his voice and tell that there was pain in his facial expressions.

“We should probably go to bed.” I suggested. We parted ways and headed to separate bedrooms. I went into mine, changed into something comfortable and sat in bed. When I finally decided to lay down, I stared at the ceiling. The ceiling stared back at me with nothing but white. For a while I stayed there, not moving, then I began to imagine.

The ceiling changed and molded into plenty of random shapes and colors. After a while of watching the colors shift my mind started to wander and I fell asleep.
