"The Netmaker" the story follows four families who are all linked in some way to the Wilkinsons Lemonade Factory that was bombed during WW2. This is a tribute to the 107 people who lost their lives on 3rd May 1941

Sam ran down to the school he was wearing his best clothes the ones he wore for church when his mother made him go.’

“He knocked at Jackie’s house and Katherine came to the door. “ Hello Sam aren’t you a smart lad today.’

“I was wondering if you were going to the funeral and if I could go with you; I mean if you don’t mind that is?’

“Of course you can come with us come in Jackie’s having a quick shave and getting ready.’

“Have you had your dinner lad?’

 “I was going to make myself something when I got back like.’

“Sit yourself down Lad and I’ll make you a sandwich; we cannot see you going without food in your belly.’

“Cheese and pickle do you.’

“Lovely thanks’ said Sam.’

“How’s that mother of yours doing?

“She may be home next week Katherine; we went to see her yesterday and she looks real good.’

“There you go get that sandwich down you said Katherine as she poured him a glass of pop as well to wash it down.’

“Are you ready Jackie’ love?’

“Just a minute, I’m coming precious.’

“You had better get your skates on or we won’t get a place there will be a lot there today I expect.

Katherine put on her black coat and her hat with a black veil. Jackie came out with his black suit on and a collar and tie. He put on his heavy black coat then placed a black trilby hat on his head.

“Ready he said.’

“Give me a look at you said Katherine as she straightened the tie on his shirt then kissed his cheek. “ My you are a handsome devil Jackie Thompson; said his wife as she took his arm and the three of them walked towards his car.

They drove to the cemetery then parked the car outside. They walked towards the chapel where they stood in line and waited until several hearses and funeral cars started to arrive. Jackie and all the men took off their hats and lowered their heads as the families of the dead entered the chapel first. There were crowds of people all standing as the mass service took place. The vicar had to speak through a microphone so that everyone could hear him. He went on to say that it was a tragedy that so many had lost their lives; but now they were in God’s hands. He read out the twenty third psalm “The Lord is my shepherd” then everyone sang “How great thou art’ Would you all join me in saying the prayer that Jesus taught us. “Our father who art in heaven.’
