"Flora, could you pass me the salt?" my mother said sternly I could tell she was just trying to avoid the topic of the conversation. Her face had worn a frown for the past ten minutes and the rest of my family had fallen silent whilst we argued "but I don't get it, why won't you let me get a job?" My mother's frown deepened at this and I knew the answer already. "Because Flora, dear it is not expected for upperclass people such as us to get a part-time job at a cheap jewellery store!"

1. Chapter 1

7:35 PM Waters Residents
"Flora, could you pass me the salt?" my mother said sternly I could tell she was just trying to avoid the topic of the conversation. Her face had worn a frown for the past ten minutes and the rest of my family had fallen silent whilst we argued "but I don't get it, why won't you let me get a job?" My mother's frown deepened at this and I knew the answer already. "Because Flora, dear it is not expected for upperclass people such as us to get a part-time job at a supermarket!"
She almost lost it in front of all of us and muttered to herself about how I was the stupidest of all my siblings. It was true none of my brother's, sisters or me needed a job we were stinking rich already and had no need for anymore money.
But I wanted to be like ordinary people who have to have jobs to do things in the summer break. During the summer holiday I would be returning to Lilians School for Girls to pick up my GCSE results. "Flora, this is the last time we have this conversation, if you do attend that job I'll..." she paused for a second to think. "...Cut your allowance for this year and the next!" She had stopped eating and had her hands clenching the table. I almost choked on my ice water with laughter from what she said "I'll just get my allowance from my new job" I said triumphantly standing and leaving the dining room.
One of my private-school friends worked at that shop to afford the high priced tuition of Lilians. I asked her if they needed any more employees and apparently they were short on staff.

6:51 AM Flora's Bedroom
I woke to the sound of my alarm sitting on the table beside my four poster bed I flicked my alarm off and swung my legs onto the edge of my bed. I stood up after several minutes and walked into my en suite, I washed my face and looked longingly at my bed, trying to ignore the urge to jump back in and sleep until noon. With a quick refreshing shower and change I was ready to go to my new job. My mother and father had refused to let me use one of the family cars, so I thought I'd try public transport for the first time.

I walked to my nearest bus stop using Google maps and waited, and waited I had some vague knowledge of what bus I was supposed to catch. It pulled up to the stop and had the numbers 216 on the front."Are you going past Kendrick Shopping centre?" I asked the driver nodded and his chins wobbled "can I get a return ticket?" "£4.20" the man said and shuffled awkwardly in the driver's seat I pushed a £5 note under the plastic gap and he handed me back a ticket and my change. I never expected it to be so cheap, I was still carrying around a £100 with me. I made my way to the back of the bus and sat in one of the browned seats.
I received stares from everybody on the bus. I wore my new Burberry coat and Marc Jacobs shirt along with limited edition Vans and a grey Michael Kors bag. I ignored them by looking out of the window I didn't really see the point in wearing all of my new clothes when I was going to change when I go into the shop anyway, i'd have to go clothes shopping after work.

The bus driver called out "Kendrick Shopping centre!" I stood up and walked of the bus thanking the driver as I did. The shopping centre was buzzing with people and there was hardly any space to even breathe. I checked my watch, ten minutes until it starts. I strolled into Starbucks and grabbed a lemon strawberry ice tea and a blueberry muffin for energy. I finished them both pretty quickly and soon made my way into the shop I was working at it was called Hanson's a jewellers that sold trendy jewellery for young people even at the low price their items were still beautiful.

I walked in as the clock hand flicked to 9:00 AM and Chelsea the manager greeted me "Wow, you look... expensive" she said which I assumed I should take as a compliment "...thanks, so when can I get started?" I asked. On my earlier visit we had talked about everything the rules how to talk to customers and help them, how to stock up on certain products and work the till. I knew the basics and beyond and was ready to get going. "Seen as your still a new employee, it's the rules to let you just shadow for today" Chelsea said "oh that's okay, when will I get, you know paid?" I asked hoping something good would come out of this question, but no. "Well, I'll have to see your performance for at least a week before I can start paying you" I nodded and she handed me a black shirt in my size, it had silver trimmings and a silver bow for the brand of Hanson's.

"So who am I going to shadow today?" I looked around the almost empty store, except for a few customers, who were browsing in the necklace section. "You'll be shadowing...Oscar" I followed Chelsea's eyes and they lead to the counter he looked up and scowled at me and went back to whatever he was doing...
