8. Chapter 7- Viv- Well, That Escalated Quickly

I went down to breakfast jealous. I had just gotten to thinking that everyone else in the band had had a private encounter with a guy from 5SOS, but me, the Flirt, hadn't even flirted with any of them!

And, on top of that, Ever went down to breakfast without me.

What a great way to start a morning.

When I went into the breakfast room, I saw everyone there, eating- well, everyone except Ever and Luke.

"Hey, Viv! What's up?" asked Natty when I got there.

"Nutin'," I said, and plopped down in the chair at the table. Might as well work up my appetite while talking, right?

"Have you seen Ever this morning?" asked Felicity.

"Nope, haven't seen her since last night. So she never came down here?"

"Nope."

"Neither did Luke," interjected Calum.

Michael nodded. "I'm gonna guess ya haven't seen him, either, then?" he asked.

"Nope. Hey, guys, I need to eat. I'm starving!" I said, changing the subject and getting up.

And, boy, was I starving! I piled stuff on my plate until the pile of food was at least three-feet-tall (and I'm not exaggerating).

When I got to the table, Calum's eyes opened wide.

"How do you stay so skinny?" Calum asked, surprised.

"High metabolism," I responded. He nodded. I smiled. "And I also think skinny."

"What?" he asked.

"Oh, you know. They say you've gotta think like whatever to be whatever. So, I think skinny to be skinny."

"Oh."

We kept a interesting conversation going. We didn't even say a word when everyone else got up, bid good-bye, and left. We kept talking and talking, until the manager came up and said,"It's closing, dears. Got to leave."

I looked at the manager. "I thought that it closed at one o'clock in the afternoon."

The manager pointed at the clock. "Look what time it is."

I looked and saw that it was one-o-one. Calum looked at me. "We've been talking for four hours?!?"

"I guess..."

He turned to the manager and nodded. "Well, gotta head off. Thanks for the chat, see ya soon!"

And with that, he turned and walked off.

__

"Flirting for four hours? I believe that that's a new record, Viv!" joked Felicity.

We were back in the practice room practicing.

Shut up!” I screamed. She had been bugging me for the past hour about that.

Natty walked in the room. “Hey, have you seen Ever yet?”
“Nope,” I said.

“Well, let me search the whole building. AGAIN,” said Natty, irritated. She slammed the door behind her.

“Wonder where Luke and Ever are…,”  I said. I let my voice wander off. I just went back to thinking about me and Calum…

__

You know that feeling when you’re halfway asleep, and you think that everything is what is actually is not? Like, you might mistaken a brown rock for a piece of chocolate, or you may feed the fish dog food, stuff like that? Well, that’s how I was feeling when I had my first encounter with Calum.

It was just a little after midnight, and Ever still wasn’t there. As I reached into my pajama drawer, I wondered where she was, but, before I could wonder very long, I realized that my pajama drawer was empty.

Everything must be in the laundry, I thought. Wonder if Ever’s got anything…?

But when I reached in Ever’s drawer, I saw that nothing was in there, either.

So I just stood there for a few moments in just my underwear, thinking.

Looks like I’ll have to go ask Felicity for some pajamas, I thought, and looked down. She’s seen me in my underwear before, I just might as well go like this.

I walked out of the room and walked over to Felicity and Natty’s door. I noticed that the door was cracked open, so I walked in and shut it to a crack again.

“Felicity, mind if I- wow, Sis, what’ve you done to your room? It’s so dirty! Look, dirty clothes, food wrappers, wow. I walked over and sat on her bed, jumped on it, then realized that there was a face sitting on the other bed!

I tapped on the figure. It was dark, and I couldn’t see the details in the face, but it was probably just Natty.

“Hey, wake up!” I said, and pushed the figure off of the bed. They fell with a thump, and then stood up. When they were on their feet, they turned the light on.

“What do you want, Ash?” said the figure, and they turned to me.

It was Calum. In just his boxers. Wide eyes, open mouth, staring me up and down, surprised.

There was silence. I just stared him up and down, and he stared me up and down. This went on for at least five minutes. Then, finally, Calum spoke.

“Umm…what do you want?” he said awkwardly.

“I thought that this was, um, Felicity’s room. I came to get some pajamas,” I said.

Calum laughed. “Well, wish I could help ya, but if I gave you my pajamas…it’d be really awkward…”

“You sleep in just your underwear?”
“Yep,” he said, smiling.

“Wow…well, you don’t have any pajamas?”

“Well, let me see what I got…,” he said. Calum walked over to his dresser and rummaged through it. He pulled out a pair of pants. Then he walked over to his closet and pulled out a shirt.

That was the outfit he wore the day that our bands met, I thought.

He walked over to me with the clothes in his arms.

Wait, he’s gonna let me wear it?!?!
He held them out to me. I took them.

“Here ya go, Viv, wear this,” he said, smiling.

“Really?” I asked. He nodded.

“OMG, thanks so much!” I said, and dropped the clothes he had given me to the floor. I ran up to him and hugged him. It must’ve seemed sudden, because I felt his chest not move for a long time. Then he released his breath, and closed his arms around me slowly.

“You’re welcome.”

And we just stood there hugging awkwardly for a long time. Then I suddenly heard a gasp, then giggles, saw a flash and a click, and then heard feet thumping. I dropped my arms off of him and picked up the clothes hurriedly.

“Did ya hear that?” he asked me.

“Yep,” I replied, pulling the t-shirt over my head.

“Umm, ya know what it was?”
“Got a pretty good idea.” I slipped on the pants that were just a little too big.

“What was it?”

“Oh, just Ever and Luke snapping a picture of us…”

Calum opened his mouth a let out a grunt. “I’ll kill him for that!”
“I’m gonna kill Ever for this, too!”

Calum laughed and smiled.

“But there’s one more thing that I’m wondering, Calum…,” I said.

“And that is?”

“What are Ever and Luke doing together after midnight?”

“Oh, I’ll find out. But first, let’s murder ‘em.”

“Agreed.”
There was another awkward silence.

“Well, hope to see ya soon, Calum!”
He nodded. “Hope to see ya soon, too. Oh, and next time, please wear clothes. Or, actually...well, just show up in clothes. We can do the rest later.” He winked

I laughed and closed the door, leaving Calum to sleep or murder or whatever guys do when they’re alone.

The next morning, I dreaded going down to breakfast. I believed wholly and truly that Ever and Luke were going to be showing the photo of Calum and I off to the bands.

But, when I got down to the breakfast table, I didn’t see them gathered around the phone laughing. Actually, the only people that laughed were just Ever and Luke, and that was just a couple of giggles.

Why didn’t she show the picture off? I thought.

Then I looked over and saw that Michael wasn’t at the table. I walked up to the table.

“Where’s Michael?” I asked.

Calum sighed. “Practicing.”

I sighed. I walked over to the breakfast table and piled my food to the sky, then returned to the table and sat down next to Calum.

Digging into my food like I hadn’t eaten in weeks, I said to Calum, “What’s up?”

“Nothing much. What about you?” he responded.

“Well, just wondering where Ever and Luke were yesterday…”

Calum smiled. “I’ve been trying to force it outta them the whole breakfast, but they won’t budge.”

I laughed. “That’s Ever for ya, ya know? She’d be the first person to go to Pluto and say she just went on a hike.”

“Well,” Calum said, “Luke isn’t usually the one to keep secrets…”

“So you haven’t broken him yet?”
“Nope. All I know about him was him coming in yesterday giggling like crazy and checking his phone a lot.”

We knew what that was about, but we weren’t about to ruin our mornings by bringing up the point of the photo.

There was an awkward silence. Then, suddenly, Georgia came running towards us, fuming.

“I just got off the phone with the frikin’ owner of the venue that we were going to perform at! He said that your all’s first concert has been moved!” Georgia screamed.

Natty opened her mouth in surprise. “And when is it going to be?” she asked.

“Tomorrow night,” said Georgia, and, with that, stormed off, leaving all of us to freak out.
