Phoenix from the Ashes

The war has just ended, but there is oh so much healing to be done. And if Ginny remembers correctly, she was in a relationship with Harry.

1. 1: Ginny

Now that the war is over, there shouldn't be a lot that needs done.

But there is. There is so much to do. All around there are people injured and dying. Some are already dead.

Like Fred. I can hardly bear to think about it. If I don't think about it, it won't be real.

Across the hall I can hear crying. My family aren't talking. Mum and George are both silently mourning, while I think the rest of us are simply shellshocked.

Hermione and Ron are sitting opposite me. Ron has his arm around her. It's about time.

I meet Hermione's eye, and she already knows what I'm about to ask: Where's Harry?

Her eyes flicker towards the door. Gryffindor Tower; of course. I quietly get up and walk towards the door. Bill squeezes my arm supportively as I pass.

The walk to the Tower is agonisingly long. The memories are so fresh in my mind, and they only resurface as I go.

There's the staircase Colin fell down to his death. There's the corner Lavender was mauled by a werewolf. There's the corridor my brother Fred was killed.

I start to run, trying to escape the memories that surround me. The portrait swings open silently when I arrive.

Harry's the only one there. I sob and fall into him; he folds his arms around me.

"It'll be okay, Ginny," he whispers soothingly.

I choke back another sob. "I should be saying that to you!" I insist weakly. "After everything you went through today..."

He shakes his head, and I try to ignore the blood and grime on his skin and clothes. I don't want to know whose it is.

"I'm better now you're here," he says into my hair, and then tugs me down onto the sofa with him.

I curl into his side and together we fall asleep in front of the fire.
