2. Chapter Two

Ashley's POV

I woke up to the sound of Bryant screaming. I turned to look at the clock, two thirty. I groaned, and got out of bed, leaving a sound asleep Ashton. I sighed, and walked into the hallway, seeing Lauren and Jackie standing in front of their doors.

"Can you shut him up, please? I need to sleep." Lauren groaned. "Yeah, mum, I need to sleep too." Jackie replied. "Do you want to take care of him? Because, feel free to." I replied. "Damn, calm down. Just make him shut up." Lauren said. "Yeah, calm down." Jackie mimicked. "Excuse me? You do not speak to me that way, missy. Now, get back in your rooms, and go back to sleep. And do not think you're off the hook. We will talk when I come home from work, understood?" I said. Jackie huffed, and nodded.

"What's wrong?" I asked Bryant, who was wide awake. He sniffled, and put his arms up. I picked him up, and kissed his head. "Shh, mommy's here." I whispered, moving from side to side. "Shh." I whispered. He eventually fell back to sleep, and when I put him back in his crib, he started crying again. "Really? You're killing mommy right now." I sighed, picking him up again.

My eyes felt heavy, as I carried myself into my office, my feet dragging across the tiled floor. "You look terrible Mrs. Irwin." Lydia said. "Thank you Lydia, thank you." I sighed. "Sorry, but you do." She replied. "I know. My son woke up screaming at two thirty this morning, and he wouldn't go back to sleep, unless he was in my arms." I replied. "Parenting is tough." She said. I nodded, and opened my office door. "Meeting with the head in twenty!" She called. I gave her a thumbs up, and closed my door.

"What the hell?" I asked, looking at the stack of papers on my desk.

Have a wonderful day. Here's what needs to be done before tomorrow. Sort through them and put them in piles. Have a great day

I groaned, and moved the papers over, so I could get to my computer. People in this building are completely rude, they expect other workers to do their work for them. They think they are royal, because they're working in the most popular magazine industry in London.

"Mrs. Irwin, the meeting starts in ten." Lydia said, opening my office door. "Okay, and can you call Ana, and tell her there is no way I will be able to finish this stack before tomorrow?" I asked. She nodded, and handed me my folder I need for the meeting. "Thank you. You're a life saver." I smiled.

Ashton's POV

"Ashton, your phone is going off." The studio manager said. I groaned, and walked out of the room. He handed me my phone, and I saw it was the daycare center. "Give me a minute. I have to take this." I said. He nodded, and turned to the dials.

"Hello?" I answered. "Mr. Irwin, hi, it's Jessica, um, I wanted to inform you that Bryant has a severe fever." Jessica from the daycare informed. "What? Since when?" I asked. "Well, um, he's burning up, and we took his temperature about ten minutes ago. He's sweating, and his face is red." She replied. "I'll be right there." I said.

"Mark, I have to go. My son is sick at daycare. I'll call you later, and let you know about everything." I rushed. He nodded, and waved me goodbye.

"Ashley Irwin-Green's phone, whom is speaking?" Lydia answered. "Lydia, it's Ashton, is Ashley there?" I replied. "No, she's in a meeting, can I take a message?" She asked. "Um, I don't think she'll like being left in the dark about this. Can you let her know it's about Bryant?" I asked. "I'll call into the meeting now." She said, before hanging up.

Ashley's POV

"So, when you put these two together, you kind of see the difference be-" "Hi, sorry to interrupt this meeting, but Mrs. Irwin, you have an emergency phone call on the line." Lydia's voice over the intercom said. "Can it wait?" I asked. "Mrs. Irwin, it's about your son." She replied. I sighed, and picked up the phone.

"What is it?" I asked. "Your husband is on line four." Lydia replied. "Seriously, Lydia, I'm in a meeting. Why can't you just take a message?" I asked. "Mrs. Irwin, he said you wouldn't like to be left in the dark about this." She replied. I huffed.

"I'm sorry sir, can I please take this phone call?" I asked. "Family emergency?" He asked. "Yes sir. My son is very sick." I replied. "Very well. Take the call, then come back." He said. "Thank you." I smiled, running out of the meeting room

"Lydia, hand me the phone." I said, once I walked to her desk. She pressed a button, and handed me the phone.

"Ashton, what is going on?" I asked. "God, Ashley, I called your phone three times, and had to wait for ten minutes." Ashton yelled. "I was in a meeting. What's wrong?" I replied. "Jessica just called, Bryant has a severe fever. I'm going to get him now. And I have no idea what to do with this kind of stuff." He rambled. "Okay, okay. Calm down, calm down. Go pick them up. My meeting will be over soon, and once it is, I will call you and walk you through what to do. Just get them home, and get him onto the couch, okay?" I said. "Yeah, okay." He replied.

Ashton's POV

I pulled into the parking lot of the daycare center, and ran out of the car. "Hi, how may I help you?" The front desk lady asked. "My kids go here, Bryant and Nicole Irwin. Jessica Miles called me, saying my son has a severe fever." I replied. "I'll let Jessica know you're here. She's been waiting for you." She replied.

Jessica came out of the room, carrying Bryant, and holding Nicole's hand. "My prince has arrived!" Nicole yelled, running to me. I smiled, and held her hand. "Go to daddy, Bryant." Jessica sighed. Bryant walked over to me, and leaned against my leg. I smiled at Jessica, and carried Bryant out of the building, with Nicole holding my hand.

"Okay, what do I do now?" I asked, as I put a screaming Bryant into the ice cold tub. "Let him sit in the tub for a while." Ashley replied. "He's screaming. Why is he screaming?" I asked. "He's just scared. He's going to scream a lot. You have to remember how cold this water is." She replied. "And what do I do when it's over?" I asked. "You wrap him in a blanket, hold him, and sit on the couch. Then, take his temperature. And hopefully it goes down, and if not, you have got to call the doctor, okay?" She replied. "Okay."

"Okay, Bry, come on." I sighed, picking him up. His small body shivered in my arms, as I wrapped the warm blanket around his body. "Okay, come on." I whispered, shutting the bathroom door. I walked into the living room, and sat on the couch, with a shivering Bryant in my arms. He just got out, and the thermometer sitting on the table next to me.

100.5 "Alright, bear with me here, alright?" I asked, smoothing his hair out of his face, as I picked up my phone.

"Dr. Daiten's office." The nurse answered. "Hi, my name is Ashton Irwin, my son, Bryant Irwin is two, and he has a temperature of one hundred point five. And my wife isn't home, but she told me to call." I said. "Okay, Mr Irwin, did you do anything to try to get the temp down?" She asked. "I gave him an ice bath just now, he just got out. And his temperature didn't go down. I don't know what else to do." I replied. "Alright, sir. It's very simple. You just really need to let him rest, and sweat it out, So, every night, you need to give him an ice bath, and check his temp. Until the temperature goes down to at least one hundred point one, you can stop." She said. "Okay, thank you." I sighed, before hanging up.

"Alright, we're stuck with you sweating it out." I sighed. But then, I smelt something. "Or... you poop it out." I sighed, picking him up. He smiled slightly, then farted. "That's my boy!" I laughed.

Ashley's POV

"Babe, I don't understand why they just can't stay here." Ashton said, following me into our bathroom. "Ashton, I told you. We have no space. And I'm sorry, but I'm not having four grown men, share a room with my children." I replied. "But you trust them, you know them. So, why not?" He asked. "Ashton, please. I said no, alright? I trust them, and I know them. I understand that. But we just don't have enough room. And I'll be at work, and with Bryant being sick I c-" "That's just bull!" He yelled. "Ashton, please keep your voice down. Please." I sighed.

"I always let Caroline or Annelyy come here, and stay with us. And we don't have enough room. But the one time my friends are coming here, they can't stay? Do you find that fair?" He asked. "Ashton, it's not about being fair. It's about being an adult, and taking charge. I don't have Annelyy come over. Maybe for a drink once in a while, but she never stays over. She has her own family." I replied.

"It's just not fair."` He sighed. "I know it's not fair. But, sometimes we all need to make sacrifices. And this is one of them." I replied. "Will you at least think about letting them stay here?" He asked. "Yes, fine. I will think about it. But you need to do one thing for me." I replied. He nodded. "You need to get me out of work tomorrow." I said. "What, why? You love you job." He said. "I do, but tomorrow, we're going to take the kids away from school, and we're going to have a family day. Start over, just like before. When we first met. Go out, shop, get pizza, run around, go to the park. I'll get Mara to watch Bryant, and we can all go out. But you need to get me out of work." I said. "Done, and done." He replied, kissing me. I smiled, and kissed him back.

"Mmmm, I love you." He mumbled. I nodded. "I love you too, now shut up."
