3. Chapter Three

Ashley's POV

"I don't know how you managed to pull it off, but you did." I smiled. "Hey, I'm Ashton Irwin. And your boss has four daughters around the age of fifteen, who happen to like a really hot drummer by the initials of AI." Ashton replied. "Oh, you mean Ashley Irwin. I know. They love me." I laughed.

"Mum when are we going?" Jackie asked, walking into the bedroom. "As soon as Mara gets here." I replied. "Why can't we go now?" She asked. "Bug, Bry is sick, and we can't leave him here alone." Ashton replied. "Well, tell Mara to hurry up!" She yelled.

"She's been hanging around Lauren for too long." I sighed. "She looks up to her." He replied. "She's known her since she was four. And that scares me." I sighed. "Why?" He asked. "She looks up to Lauren, more than Jackie looks up to me. Her own mother. Maybe I'm not doing something right." I said.

"We've had this talk all the time babe. You were fifteen when you had Jaclyn. You're an amazing mother for having her so young. You're not doing anything wrong." Ashton said. "Maybe history is repeating itself." I sighed. "Ashley, you can't predict the future. But right now, you're being the best mother she can possibly have. And you know that. Everyone knows it. Don't second guess yourself." He said. I sighed.

"Ashley, Mara's here!" Lauren yelled. "There's our cue." I sighed, rubbing my hands on my pants. Ashton put his hand on my lower back, and guided me out of the room.

"Mara, thank you so much for coming." I smiled. "Oh, of course. What sixteen year old has plans on a Thursday night?" She asked. "Did we ruin plans?" I asked. "Oh, no. I just have some homework to catch up on. I brought it with me." She replied. I smiled and nodded.

Mara is our nanny. Because Ashton and I work, most of the time, Mara comes and watches Bryant and Nicole. She's absolutely amazing. She cleans the house, watches the kids, plays with them, makes dinner on late nights. Gets the girls off to school on early mornings. She's amazing.

Ashton's POV

"My prince! Come!" Nicole yelled. "Yes, Princess?" I asked. "I demand you to push me on this swing!" She yelled. I laughed, and started pushing her.

"Hey dad?" Jackie asked, as she walked next to me. "Yeah bug?" I asked. "Can I ask you something, that I don't want to ask mum?" She asked. "Of course, you know you can." I replied.

"So, you know how mum talks about my dad?" She asked. I nodded. "Well, all my friends have dads, and I don't really. They all talk about how their mum and dads have been together for a long time, but I can't say anything." She said.

"What exactly are you asking me?" I asked. "Why do I call you dad, but my real dad is back home? Who do I call dad, and who don't I call dad?" She asked. My heart broke a little. We talked about this, and Ashley is going to flip.

"How about you go back and play, and me, you and mum will have a talk a little later." I said. She nodded. "I love you." She smiled. She didn't say dad. "I love you too." I replied. I didn't say bug.

"We're going to need to talk to Jackie." I sighed, sitting next to Ashley. "What do you mean?" She asked. "She just asked me why she calls me d-" "I told you this would happen." She jumped. "You never let me finish." I replied. "You didn't have to. She's at the age. I told you this would happen." She said.

Ashley's POV

As we pulled up to the house, I realized there was a car in the driveway. "Who's here?" I asked. "Um, I don't know." Ashton replied.

"Ashton!" Voices yelled, as we entered the house. My jaw dropped. "You didn't." I spoke up. Everyone turned to me. I shook my head, and put Nicole down. "Jackie, Nicole, go on and play." I said.

"Ashton, we need to talk. Now." I said. "You're in trouble." Luke laughed. "You're all next. Don't think you're off the hook." I said. Ashton just stood there, and didn't move.

I huffed, and grabbed his hair. "Ow hair, ow hair." Ashton whined. "You deserve it." I snapped. "What is your problem?" He asked. "My problem?! My problem is that you decided to tell them to come, when I said we have no room." I replied.

"We have four kids living in this house. Jackie has her own room, Nicole has her own room, Lauren has her own room, and Bryant has his own room. We have a room, we don't have room. And yet, you still tell them to come." I said.

"It's only for a few days." He said. I threw my hands up. "That's not the point! The point is, you went behind my back, without even mentioning it to me!" I yelled. "You always tell me to grow up, and I made my own decision." He replied simply. "I tell you to grow up and make your own decisions, yes. But I don't tell you to act like this and go behind my freaking back!" I yelled.

"B-" "I can't." I sighed. He looked at me. "I give up. Have it your way. But, you need to find them a place to sleep, something to eat, and entertain them. This is not my deal, nor my problem. Don't ask me any questions about it." I said, before walking out of the room.

"Ashton never told you, did he?" Michael asked. "Nope." I replied. "He didn't tell us you said no." He said. "It's not my problem to deal with. He went behind my back, and did this, and now he either had to deal with it, or fix it." I replied.

"Why is this such a problem?" He asked. "There's just so much stress on myself and Ashton. Between Bryant being sick, and now this shit with Jackie, I don't know how to handle things." I sighed. "What's going on with Jackie?" He asked. "She asked why she calls Ashton dad." I replied. He sighed.

"Hey Jack, can you come here?" I yelled up the stairs. The guys took the kids for ice cream, including Bryant, and Jackie didn't want to go, so we have to have this talk now.

"Yeah?" She asked. "Come sit." I said. She sat down across from Ashton and I, which we still aren't on great terms, but this talk is needed.

"So, dad told me you asked why you call him dad." I said. She nodded. "And decided you need an explanation, because we explained it when you were little." I said.

"Do you remember when I first brought Ashton home, after school, and Rachel went crazy?" I asked. "Kind of." She replied. "Do you remember when Ashton got us that really pretty home you grew up in?" I asked. She nodded.

"Well, honey, when you were little, about four years old, you loved Ashton. You adored him, and one day, I was video chatting him, and before we video chatted, you said something like, I miss daddy. Do you remember?" I asked. "A little." She replied.

"Well, when Ashton got home from tour, he agreed to be a father figure to you, because your real dad isn't exactly in the picture. And he never was. So, that's why you call him dad. And don't think he doesn't love you any less than he loves Nikki or Bry, because he loves you exactly the same, maybe even more." I said.

"What do I call him?" She asked. "Call who?" I replied. "Ashton. Do I call him dad or Ashton?" She asked. "You call him whatever you want. But you do not be disrespectful. I think you should stick to calling him dad." I replied.

"Does that mean Nikki and Bry aren't my sister and brother?" She asked. "No, honey. They're your brother and sister. You just have a different dad." I replied. I could already see her getting angry, she doesn't the same thing I do.

"Why tell me now!? What was so bad about my dad!?" She yelled, jumping up. The lump in my throat grew bigger. "I hate you!" She screamed.

"What's going on?" Lauren asked, walking into the room. I sighed. "Did you know about him not being my dad?" Jackie asked, as she hugged Lauren. Lauren looked at me.

"I can't do this." I said, getting up. "Ashley, where are you going!?" Ashton yelled, as the rest of the guys came into the house. "I just need to lay down." I sighed.

I walked into my bedroom, and sighed. I just want to lay down, and sleep. There's too much going on, and too much stress.

I walked to my closet, and opened it. I looked up at the top shelf of the closet and looked at the box. Don't do it. Don't break your promise. I sighed, and grabbed the box, and sat on the floor of the closet.

I looked at all the things inside the box. Needles. Medical bands. Medical cards. Pictures. Bracelets. My first ever ultrasound. Blades from last week.

"What are you doing?" A voice asked. I looked up seeing Ashton standing there, in the doorway of the closet. "I was looking at the past." I replied. "I don't like you looking in that box, you know that." He said.

"Come here." He said, opening his arms. I got up, and walked into his arms. "She hates me." I cried. "Shh." He whispered. "I can't stand here and act like nothing is wrong, when my daughter is in pain, and is hating me, because I never told her." I cried.

"Mum." A voice said. I looked up, seeing Jackie, with her hands at her sides. "I'm sorry. I don't hate you." She smiled. "Come here baby." Ashton said, extending his arm. She ran to him, and he picked her up.

"I love you mum, and I love you Ashton." She smiled. "No, I don't love Ashton. I love dad." She smiled. I laughed, and hugged her tightly.

"I want you to know you can tell me and ask me anything, same thing with dad. And you can ask Luke, Mikey, and Cal anything." I said. She nodded.

"Can I ask you something?" She asked. "Of course baby." I replied. "Where do babies come from?" She asked. I laughed, and shook my head. "That, you will learn. I am not telling you that." I said.

"Mum, please!" She yelled. "No." I laughed. "Mum, I want to know!" She yelled. "I'm not telling you that, and neither will the guys." I said. "Mum!" She yelled. I laughed, and walked away, with her yelling.
