7. Seven - What Did You Do!? (WARNING:TRIGGERING)

Felix woke up the next morning to his phone ringing, it was about four a.m. He sighed reaching over to grab it before it woke up Ryan.

“What? Who is it?” Felix muttered quite harshly into the phone.

“Felix, its Mark.” He heard the replied with the same hushed tone I his voice.

“Hey, What happened last night, Jack texted me in a panic asking me what was going on?”

“A really bad car accident, I’ll explain later but for now I don’t know what to do, Jack’s acting like… really… weird?” Mark said, “Do you know why? I know you guys are like really close.”

“Not lately, he’s been with you most of the time, it’s been me and Ken mostly.” Felix said, suddenly Mark heard another voice on the line.

“You and Ken what?”

“Hush Cry, I’m on the phone, go back to sleep.” Felix muttered.

“Wait, Cry? I thought you two weren’t talking? Wait! Did you two…?” Mark gasped, happy for his friend.

“Yes, I used Ken’s phone to call him and I told him I loved him and now he’s mine.” Felix said proudly.

“Congrats man!” Mark smiled, “Can we meet up later, it seems like we’ve got a lot to catch up on, I’ve gotta go, Jack’s gonna wake up if I keep talking.”

“You two are a thing now!?”

“No, he just picked me up last night and he crashed at my place.”

“Okay, see you later.” Felix replied before Mark hung up.

Mark lied in bed half awake, not getting much sleep that night at all. Jack rolled onto his side, one of his arms falling over Mark lightly, his skin tingling where Jack’s warm skin had touched his. Jack moaned in his sleep, saying something Mark couldn’t quite understand. He still smiled anyway, Jack was cute when he was sleeping, and he looked so peaceful. Mark knew that was the cheesiest thing on the planet to think but he didn’t care, it was true and that’s what really mattered.

“Mark?” Jack mumbled.

“Yeah?” Mark asked, getting no reply, realizing that Jack was talking in his sleep. Mark’s cheeks heated up, knowing that Jack was dreaming about him made him, for some reason, smile uncontrollably. Jack started rambling on and on in his sleep, it was all completely incoherent, soon Jack started squirming around mumbling something over and over. Mark could hear Jack whimpering softly as his mumbling died down, tears fell from the corners of his closed eyes.

“Jack, Jacky… Wake up, you’re alright.” Mark nudged his friend softly.

“Mark?” Jack whimpered, waking up slowly.

“I’m right here, you’re alright. It was only a dream.” Mark rubbed Jack’s back soothingly, trying to calm him down. Jack rubbed his eyes and moved to a seated position, Mark did as well, his hand still on the boy’s back.

“Are you alright, Jack?” Mark began to worry about his friend. Jack sniffled looking over at Mark, his eyes all read and tear streaked… The one thing Mark never wanted to ever see again.

“Yeah… I-I just was really scared… I-I… I’m sorry, I sound stupid.” Jack rubbed at his eyes and hugged his knees to his chest.

“”It’s okay, you don’t sound stupid… What happened?” Mark was trying to see what had upset him, “You were talking in your sleep, I couldn’t make out what you were saying, the only thing that was actually understandable was when you said my name.” Jack’s cheeks flushed as he looked away.

“I don’t wanna talk about it…” Jack murmured.

“That’s fine.” Mark hugged Jack, knowing that he was having a panic attack from the way he was acting, he only knew this because that’s the same way he acted. Jack leaned into him, feeling instantly safer in Mark’s arms. He was so happy that he’d let Mark in, he’d have nobody to talk to and he’d probably have committed suicide by now. Little did Mark know he was saving Jack’s life while Jack was doing the same for him.

“Hey, Sorry I’m late.” Felix jogged over to Mark who was sat on the roof of the school.

“It’s fine, I was a bit late myself, Jack was acting kinda weird, like he wanted to hang out with me and everything and he was acting like he didn’t want to go home or something.” Mark looked over at his friend.

“One thing about Jack is he hates being at home because nobody’s ever there and he feel’s lonely… He’s told me before, you have to swear you won’t tell him I told you this…” Mark nodded in agreement, “He says he hates being lonely because of his thoughts, he thinks one day the voices will get too strong…” Felix looked over at Mark, seeing the look of guilt on his friend’s face.

“I feel so bad now… I didn’t know.” Mark said softly, “Is that the only reason he even wants to be around me?”

“No, he said that the thoughts only come when he’s battling something in his head, like if something’s wrong or whatever, other than that he loves being alone, he’d learned from being alone so much.” Felix replied.

“What’s wrong with him then, he’s been acting so weird. Like last night I called him and I was crying and stuff, I’ll explain why after, but I asked him to come pick me up and when he did he seemed really distraught and all that and when he saw me he hugged me like excessively tight and just held me for what felt like forever, I could have sworn that he was crying, I couldn’t tell though… He yelled at me at first and said something like what did I tell you, I said don’t worry me and then he pulled me into the hug and said like don’t ever scare me like this again.” Mark muttered, “This morning after we got off the phone he said my name in his sleep then started saying a bunch of incoherent stuff and then he started crying and rolling around in the bed until I woke him up and he still was all shaken up over it…”

“Really? That doesn’t sound like him at all, I’m really worried about him now…” Felix said softly.

“Me too…”

“So what happened last night with you?”

“My mother, father, brother and I were on our way home at about one in the morning when a drunk driver was driving on the wrong side of the road hit us, my dad died instantly, my mom’s dying and my brother is in critical condition…” Mark had begun to cry, yet again.

“Awe, I’m sorry, don’t cry!” Felix begged.

“I-It’s just so hard, I hate this so much… I’m in love with a man who’ll never love me back and my dad’s dead, soon I won’t have a mom if people don’t hurry up and I have no idea what to do anymore…”Mark sighed in defeat, “Let’s talk about something happy for a while, What happened with you and Ryan?”

“Oh, I-I called him on Ken’s phone, told him I was in love with him, we met up here and Ryan said he loved me back.” Felix shrugged, “Nothing special.”

“Oh… Better than I’ve done.” Mark shrugged, “Oh yeah I forgot to mention, Jack bought me and him tickets to some gaming convention next month.”

Mark was in his room, crying his eyes out while texting with Jack and Felix, neither of the boys knew though, neither of them knew what Mark was going to do either.

Mark: I’ve gotta go, um… bye guys…

Mark sent into the chat with the boys, sending signs that something wasn’t right. Mark went into his bathroom and started running the water in the bath, letting the tub fill before he stripped down and slid into the hot water of the bath that stung against his bare skin, making him wince. He leaned his head back against the tiles of the wall, thinking about how he was going to do this. After being sure that he wanted to go through with this he grabbed the razor of the edge of the tub, Mark flipped it between his fingertips, like a baton over and over till he worked up the courage to quickly slice the blade across his wrist, the pain unimaginable. He let out a yelp, tears springing to his eyes as he lifted his wrist from the now red water and checked the deep gash in his wrist, it defiantly would need stitches… He dropped it back into the water and went to slash the other but heard a voice from his room.

“Mark?” The Irish accent belonging to Jack rang out. Mark froze, gripping the blade between his fingers, firmly pressing it against the tender skin of his wrist. He sat holding his breath trying to wait for Jack to leave.

“I know yee’re in ‘ere Mark, I’m not a complete idiot.” Jack said, “If yee’re not coming out then I’m stayin’ ‘ere till you do.” Mark began to panic and did a dumb thing.

“Uh, I’m in the bath, I fell asleep… I’m fine Jack.” His voice came out weaker than imagined.

“Okay, I’m going to stay and talk to ye then.” Jack opened the bathroom door, which Mark was stupid enough to leave unlocked. Jack instantly came and sat by the edge of the bath and removed Mark’s wrist from the tub and pressed a washcloth to it, in attempt to stop the bleeding.

“You could have just… You could have just called me…” Jack sounded hurt, his eyes never leaving Mark’s wound.

“I-I… I just don’t want to stay here…” Mark cried.

“Well maybe somebody else does! Have ye ever fuckin’ thought of that Mark…”
