17. Shelf (A) 17/01

I used to balance on the shelf,
an ornament amongst ornaments,
standing side by side we were,
a line of treasured souls.

and then I felt myself
falling,
hanging from the
ledge,
clawing for those left behind,
who watched
me
go.

and as I fell the shelf remained still,
but my soul - it stained the ground,
with shattered glass,
glass that was strong,
until I was
broken;
empty.
