35. Drive (A) 04/02

we drive over hills,
guided through lost towns and
forgotten souls,
treasured smiles and
melancholic whisperings;
the moon alight and alive,
reaching for those that
descend amongst the
earth's crescent.

and here we
fall -
into the warmth of the night,
sucking out the air inside of us until we are
running on the fuel of our
broken souls,
the only sound the slow
churning of the engine,
fighting through deafening voices to reach the
horizon that stretches
monumentally before us.

and the drive is so long,
my eyes drying to the
breeze that blows away my
tears,
and the darkness -
consuming us,
the stars an array of the
mismatched thoughts that
lie between the world and
I.

and I'm sinking,
into the depths of this
frivolous universe,
where humanity can no longer
reach me.
I'll remain alone -
on this long long drive,
seeking,
searching,
to be
found.
