Chapter 2. ~~~~~~

It's morning. The day the McCalester's move in.

I wake up to the sound of car traffic. How could there be traffic this early in the morning? It only feels like it is 9am.

I turn to pick up my phone that is placed to the right of me on my night table. I turn on the phone and check the time.

"11:37am?" I say with a gasp. How can it be so late? It feels so early like I haven't slept enough. Maybe I slept a bit to much.

I start to get up to go downstairs. I put on my housecoat which has soccer balls all over it. Soccer is my favourite sport. I used to play it as a child.

I open my bedroom door to head downstairs. The aroma of pancakes fill the halls. I love pancakes with all my heart. I bet my mother only made them to keep me happy this morning because of the move! Well who cares I got pancakes in the meantime.

When I make it to the kitchen my mother is happily making the pancakes while humming. She turns to me.

"Good morning. I think this is the latest you have ever slept in. It's good to see you finally get rest." She says to me sitting me at the table.

She hands me a plate with 3 huge pancakes on them. Right when she places them in front of me I dig right in. I am an odd teenager. I think I'm the only teen who takes their pancakes with nothing on them. I like plain old pancakes. We don't need to ruin their taste by adding sugar to it.

"You didn't have dinner last night because you were sleeping so it's good that you are eating a big breakfast now." My mother says touching my shoulder then walking away.

When I get half way done my second pancake the home phone rings.

"Who is it?" I ask my mom chewing on my pancake.

"It's your father." She says to me with a sigh. When I was 8, my dad left my mother and I for another family. I have hated him since and he is one of the reasons why I hate boys. The only guy I will only love (as a brother) is Max.

"Give me the phone. I'll deal with him." I say irritated.

"Hello? Manacini residents." I say politely.

"I see you took your mothers last name Val." My dad says disappointed.

"I took it right after you left. I wanted to be named after someone who was loyal and someone who I actually care about. And my name is Valentina incase you forgot" I say rudely. It was rude but the truth. I look at my mother. She has a smirk on her face but she shakes her head at me.

"Oh, I see. Well I just wanted to see how you guys were doing." He says changing the topic.

"We are doing just fine without you. Is that all you wanted because I'm not really in the mood for talking to you I wanted to have a good morning." I say firing at him. It feels good being mean to him. Hopefully he feels horrible.

"I guess. Can your mother talk?" He says hesitantly.

I look at her and she knows exactly what he just said. She shakes her head.

"No. She is too busy having fun. Good day." I say before hanging up. When I place the phone on the table I turn to my mother and look at her. We start to laugh.

"'Good day'?" She says laughing at me.

I give her a kiss on the forehead then help her clean up the breakfast mess.

I walk up stairs reflecting on the day my dad left us. I was crying my mom was too. He just walked out to a car with a young woman in it and drove off. I never wanted to see him again after that day.

When I enter my room I go straight to my phone.

"1 Message: Max Aerio" it says on the lock screen. I unlock my phone and look at the message.

"Hey <3. How are you holding up? Oh, by the way, Lauren's phone broke so don't bother calling or texting her." It says. Max is so funny. We have a special relationship I wouldn't replace for the world.

"Hello<3 thanks for checking up on me and for caring so much. I'm doing well... My dad just called." I reply.

"Really? Why did that jerk call?" He messages back.

"Just to check up on us. I got rid of him in the rudest way possible though. I have to go phone is dying. Bye love you<3" I say. I am not lying my phone is dying it is at 16%.

"That's my girl! And ok only if you have to go. Bye and I love you more<3<3" he replies. Max always knows how to cheer me up.

I plug my phone in then go to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I walk back to my room and get dressed. Today is Saturday so I wear something casual. I am not going out or anything. I put on a pair of mahogany skinny jeans and a grey tight short sleeve shirt with the word "UNIQUE" written in the middle.

When I am done getting changed I brush my hair and put it up in a messy bun. It's out of my face that way and it's super easy to do.

While I am walking over to my desk I hear the doorbell ring.

"I'll get it!" I yell. It's around 1:30 maybe it's those religious people with bibles.

I run down the stairs and open the door. A cute little girl with short brown hair and blue eyes smiles at me.

"Hi! I'm Sabrina McCalester. The youngest of the family who moved in next door. " she says holding out her hand.

"Hi there! I'm Valentina. I'm the only kid who lives here. I live here with my mom Rachel." I say shaking her hand and smiling.

"Sabrina! I told you not to leave without me." A male voice yells. He starts to run to my front door to greet me.

"Hi. I'm Leo." He says sternly while holding the back of his neck. He has biceps. You could see it when he grabbed his neck. I also got lost in his turquoise coloured eyes when he spoke. His shiny black hair that was swept just over his right eye glistened in the sunlight. He is taller then me. My head reaches his chest but I can tell he's my age.

He looks familiar but I can't remember from where.

"Hi. I'm Valentina." I say. Oh my. Why did the new guy have to be so cute? I know I shouldn't be thinking this way so I said hello to him in a bored and irritated voice just to show him I don't care.

"We just came over to meet the neighbours. Sorry if we bothered you." Leo says to me. It sounds like he wants to leave.

"It's okay. You didn't bother me. Welcome to the neighbourhood!" I say trying to be nice. I was trying to pin point where I saw him.

"Bye! Thanks. Have a good day!" Sabrina says to me. I watch them both turn around to walk to their house. Leo grabbed Sabrina's hand as they walked. I look at the back of Leo's neck. He has a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt.

"The dream." I say to myself as I close the door behind me.

"He was from my dream."

"Who was it?" My mother asks.

"It was the McCaleater kids. They came to say hi. I welcomed them." I say walking up the stairs.

"Aw. That's so sweet. One day I should have a coffee with their mother." She says joyfully.

"Have fun with that." I mumble.

I can't help but think of that scar. How come he was in my dream? What did it mean? Who is he? What's so different about him? Where did he get the scar?
