9. Destruction

Melody's P.O.V
"See you later, Melody!" Dan called as he and Phil walked out the door. "Bye," I whispered softly. I flopped onto the couch, surfing through the channels. I groaned. Nothing good was on! Sighing, I went into the kitchen to get some food. Maybe chips. Or carrots. With ranch.

As I dug through the fridge, a crash sounded in the house. I stood completely still. The sound of heavy breathing made me shiver. I shrank back, keeping my mouth shut.

"Where are you, Melody? I know you're there..." The sound of Brittany's voice sent waves of panic through me. Without a second thought, I grabbed a frying pan off the stove and scrambled to my feet.

"Get back here!" she snarled as I ran off into another part of the house. I pulled out my cellphone, dialing Dan's number. When he picked up, I looked behind me to see Brittany running towards me, her eyes wild.

"Dan, help!" I screamed. Brittany knocked the phone out of my hand and slapped me. I screamed as I fell to the ground. She snapped the phone clean in half, her strength fueled by her rage. She gripped the knife in her hand tighter, walking towards me slowly.

"I'm going to make you pay for taking my man away from me!" she growled, her eyes narrowed. I scrambled backward, knocking things off the counter and onto the floor to distract Brittany. She just laughed and kept walking. I felt my back press against the wall, and I knew that I was a goner.

"This is for taking my man, you fat ass bitch!" she hissed, stabbing me with the knife. I gasped, falling limply to the ground. The last thing I heard before I lost consciousness was Brittany's maniacal laugh as she stared at me with her broken, unblinking eyes. Just when I was about to black out, I saw the deep cuts on her arm. Had she really done that because of me and Dan? And then, I blacked out.

Dan's POV:
I heard Melody scream my name, and Brittany's laugh, and then the line went dead. I took off my headphones and ran towards the doors, pulling on my coat.

"Dan, get back here! We aren't finished with the show!" Phil said, following behind me. I turned to him, my eyes wide with fear. His eyes darted as he studied my figure, and he seemed to understand. He pulled on his own coat and followed me. We ignored the shouts and protests from the rest of the crew and ran through the doors out into the parking lot.

"So, why did we leave the show and possibly ruin our reputations?" Phil grumbled, hailing a cab. I explained about Melody's weird phone call. Her screams, a girl's laugh, who I had guessed was Brittany, and the sudden disconnection. The driver had apparently been listening in.

"Sounds like something out of a horror film!" he sighed as he drove, and I closed my eyes. He was right, it did. Oh god, please let Melody be alright. Please, I thought, wiping a tear from my cheek. As the cab pulled up to the flat, we thanked the driver and payed him, giving him a generous tip. We ran inside and up the many flights upstairs until we reached our flat. To our horror, the door was wide open and hanging from its hinges.

"Melody?! MELODY!!" I screamed, running through the small apartment. And then, I reached the kitchen. Blood was smeared all over the floor. Brittany's ragged form was kicking Melody's broken body over and over, laughing.

"Leave her alone!" I screamed, tackling her to the ground. She growled and snapped like an animal, but I held on tight. She wrestled out of my grip and stood up, her chest heaving. She slapped me before running off. I knelt down by Melody, scooping her up in my arms. Hot, fat tears rolled down my face as I sobbed, clutching her tightly to my chest. Her blood pooled around us, and I knew, deep down, that she wouldn't make it if we waited much longer.

Phil had already dialed 911, and the sirens of an ambulance roared outside. Town men carrying a stretcher ran into the room. They didn't hesitate at the carnage lying before them. They gently lifted Melody into the stretcher and carried her away. I collapsed to my hands and knees, sobbing as the love of my life was carried away. Phil knelt beside me, wrapping his arms around me. We sat there in the destroyed kitchen, hugging each other so tightly that we could feel each other sobbing. It was all over. Melody was...gone.
