The year is 2021, and a third World War is in full swing. A group of teenagers have been able to live in the country and escape most of the crazy war lifestyle. They reside in a large mansion owned by the King and Queen of the Republic of England. There's a school being run, and a lot of kids running around. There will be a turn in the war soon. It's going to be a revolt from the creatures most people don't even believe in.

3. Feeding

“The stars look overly beautiful tonight,” Riley brings her legs into her chest as she sits on the roof. “Only fitting for the amazing day it was.”

“Riley, I hate to say this, but I’m really hungry,” Lucas stands up and begins pacing.

“You are always hungry,” Riley locks over at the nervous male. “Something must be setting off your need for blood. This bloodlust recently is a bit extreme.”

“Within me?”

“Yes, you. I’m not sure what, it’s hard to tell. I’ll try and read about it tomorrow.”

“But right now you just want some of my O-positive,” Riley turns her gaze back to the stars. “Please, be careful,” she pulls hair away from me side of her neck.

In the blink of an eye, Lucas has his fangs in Riley’s neck and is practically inhaling her delicious plasma.

A sigh escapes Riley’s lips as she sinks into the weird pleasure that getting your blood sucked can bring. Her heard beat begins to slow, and her body temperature drops.

Lucas notices these changes, and wills himself to take on last gulp before pulling away. His fangs easily slipping back into his gums.

Riley collapses into the arms of Lucas. Her breathing is ragged and heavy. “Did you get your fill?”

“Just barely.”

“Are you feeling okay?”

“Just cold,” Riley nestles farther into Lucas. “And tired.”

“All normal after one of my feedings. So good.” Lucas adjusts his hold on Riley so he can effectively warm her up. “Tell me when you are starting to feel better. Our rooftop adventures have yet to begin.”

Riley weakly chuckles, “What are we going to do?”

“I feel the need to shift. If only for a few minutes. As for you, enjoy the stars. We don’t know the next time we will be out here.”

“I guess I can agree to that,” Riley shivers as she feels a figure in the distance. “Lucas, there’s someone near.”

“How close?” Lucas focuses his hearing to catch anything out of the ordinary.

“Soldier,” Riley shakily sits up on her own. “Why?”

“He’s asking for help. For food and nurses. We will be fine,” Lucas watches as Riley lies down and closes her eyes. Concern runs through him as he watches the slow rise and fall of Riley’s chest. “It seems the war is spreading. Reaching even the farthest, most out of place, expanses of the Earth. I don’t want to worry you, but we may have to help soon.”

“I don’t want to leave.”

“We won’t leave just yet. For now, we are safe.”

“I always want to be with you and the others.”

“I will do everything to make that happen.”

Riley slowly opens her eyes, a smile creeping onto her lips. “I trust you.”

“The man is in the house now. He is being lead to a room.”

“You are safe to shift into your animal now, Lucas.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“His presence is gone. Besides, if he did find us, I could just sing for him to do my bidding.”

“Of course. I shouldn’t doubt you.”

“Never. I am able to sense people better than you.”

“That’s why I can’t get rid of you.”

“Hm, that is one reason.”

Lucas grins before focusing on his spirit animal. It has been a while since he last transformed into a wolf.

Riley, now aware of how quiet it is, slowly sits up and looks to where Lucas last was. “Lucas, where are you?”

A vicious growl fills the night air; claws scrap against the shingles.

Riley carefully turns to see the silver fur wolf in striking position. Her breathing picks up just a tad, but with all the lost blood, all she can do is sit and wait.

The last time Lucas shifted into his wolf form, he ran off. The stories he told of what he did shocked his friends.

“Lucas, it’s me, Riley,” the girl reaches her hand out to the beast.

The wolf stops glowering and begins to relax. His eyes changing from blood red to a calm sea blue.

“That’s it. Now come here,” she motions for Lucas.

Even as a wolf, Lucas can clearly show emotion. With a smile on his muzzle, he trots over to Riley.

“Good boy,” Riley scratches the space between the wolf’s ears. “This is quite weird. If you could please change back soon, that would be great. And then take me back to my room.”

A bark rings out into the night.

“I hope that is a yes.”

Paige stares down the target at the other end of the room. Her hands on the handle of her sword.

“Paige, everyone else is hanging out in the pool room,” Riley walks into the dojo.

“I just want to do this skill one time,” Paige unsheathes her sword and takes a deep breath. “I know I can do it.

“What do you want to do?”

“Right when I get to the target, I jump and land behind it. Stabbing the sword back into the heart.”

“Seems easy for her. What’s tripping you up?”

“Landing. I think something is wrong with my knee.”

“Then take a break.”

“Just one more time. I can do it.”

“Don’t hurt yourself.”

Paige nods and then starts rushing towards the target. Her speed is unmatched, and her sword is a blur as she blocks imaginary ammunition. When she is mere meters from the target, she jumps and flips through the air. She lands and thrusts her sword back.

“That was perfect!” Riley shouts down to Paige.

The sword wielder pulls her sword out and places it the sheath. “Thank you.” She turns and smiles at Riley. “Your praising is what keeps me going.”

“That makes my heart swell in happiness, Paige.”

“So, the others are swimming?”

“Not yet. We’ve been waiting on you. So come on.”

“What is going on with that army man?” Paige asks, sitting on the edge with just her legs in the water.

“No clue, but he gives off a bad vibe,” Riley runs a hand through her hair. “I have a feeling he’s going to do something bad to us.”

Lucas swims over to Riley and subtly brushes his hand with hers. “You think he’ll break us apart.”

“No way that is ever happening,” Bella walks to the end of the diving board. “We will always stick together.” She takes a breath before diving into the pool.

“If he wants one of us, don’t we have to listen to him?” Daniel lifts himself out of the pool to sit on the edge.

“I will refuse him regardless,” Riley smirks. “All of your friendships mean so much to me. Nothing can break us apart.”

“Well, until death takes up,” Paige grimaces. “And Lucas will move on.”

“No, no,” Lucas’s fangs shoot out from anger. “I won’t lose any of you,” his voice is low and his eyes are flickering between red and blue.

“Lucas,” Riley moves to stand in front of the vampire. “Focus on me,” she cups the boy’s face in her hand. “Just me, okay?”

“I won’t lose any of you!” Lucas’s eyes no longer flicker to blue. “I’ve lost too many!”

“We’ll be with you as long as possible,” Bella stops on the steps of the diving board.

“Lucas, everything is going to be okay,” Riley places her forehead on his. Their eyes locked. “Deep breaths.”

“I won’t lose any of you,” Lucas whispers.

“I know you won’t. I trust you.”

“Never, you’ll always be with me,” his eyes slowly change back to blue. “All of you.”

Then, in a blur, Lucas uses his vampire speed to exit the room. Riley and the others stand around confused and hurting for the immortal boy.

I am so sorry that it has taking me so long to get this chapter out. I was trying to finish up another story while writing this one, and I've just been so busy. I'm going to try to get back to writing this so I don't go that long without a chapter again. Anyways, hope you're liking it! Maybe tell me what you think in the comments below! :D
