The year is 2021, and a third World War is in full swing. A group of teenagers have been able to live in the country and escape most of the crazy war lifestyle. They reside in a large mansion owned by the King and Queen of the Republic of England. There's a school being run, and a lot of kids running around. There will be a turn in the war soon. It's going to be a revolt from the creatures most people don't even believe in.

6. Army Base

Riley looks down at her wrist where two dots are scarred onto her. They are due to Lucas’s late night snack.

“Sorry about that,” Lucas has to put his mouth right up to Riley’s ear for her to hear him. The army truck the group is in drowns out virtually all sound. “I don’t know why it didn’t heal.”

“It’s fine,” Riley’s voice rings through Lucas’s mind.

“Making is easy for us to talk, smart.”

          “I’m really anxious.”

“No need to be. You’re with all your friends.”

“I don’t want to get hurt.”

“I’ll always protect you. I will always be by your side.”

As Riley and Lucas continue their conversations, the other three have been talking away.

          “How much longer?” Paige frowns.

“It can’t be that much longer, we slept for a good while in the beginning,” Daniel answers.

“I don’t want to get there, ever,” Bella sighs. “I know they want me to kill with magic.”

“Then don’t,” Daniel grabs Bella’s hand. “You tell yourself what you can do. Not anyone else.”

“I’ll kill to end this war,” Paige states. “I don’t really want to, but I will if I have to.”

“Don’t worry about that,” Daniel releases Bella’s hand. “Lucas won’t allow that. He wants to win this war without unneeded violence. So, we won’t be killing for the military that has drafted us.”

“Is a plan in place?” Bella hopefully asks.

          “I can’t say,” Daniel shrugs.

          “So, yes?” Paige chuckles.

“Welcome to the arm base!” The soldier man motions to the barracks, cafeteria, and training facilities. “We don’t know much about your skills, so you’ll be showing us. Everyone here is just a great soldier, that is their skill.”

“Why do you need to see our skills?” Riley glares.

“So, we know how you can help us,” the man answers calmly. “Now, you will live together in a barrack. Just the five of you in one. Girls, we have a private bath for you.”

“Well, that’s nice,” Paige pins her hair into a bun with a chopstick like item.

“Everything is announced on the speakers, and it’s up early and to bed early.”

“Not much of a change for us there,” Daniel grins.

“Training isn’t all day, but it is a good chunk. There’s time for briefings, eating, showering and such, and free time.”

“Is training hard?” Bella tries to calm herself with a spell said inside her head.

“You’ll start out with the easy stuff and be worked to the hard stuff.”

“Enough with the bullshit,” Lucas growls, glaring at the soldier man. “Who do we have to kill?” His eyes flash red as he pictures all the blood from the dead. He pushes the thought out of his head before it overtakes him. “I know that’s why we’re here.”

“Smart boy you are, Lucas. Don’t worry, you’ll learn about all that stuff soon enough,” the man smirks. “Now, I’ll show you to your barrack,” he turns away from the group. “Oh, you will call me Lieutenant Reynolds. Follow me.”

The kids follow the lieutenant through the base. They pass men who stop training to stare, and women who bark orders to get everyone focused.

Bella is nervous and scared; Paige is jittery and excited; Riley is wondering and calm; Daniel is content and unnerved; Lucas is pissed and ready to fight.

“Well, this is not a bad place to spend the next few months,” Riley sighs and lies back on her bunk.

“I hate it,” Paige pouts. “I don’t like us all in this small space. I love you all, but I need my space.”

“I completely understand,” Daniel smiles over a the youngest slouched on her bunk. “This is good, though. No one will come in without permission, so we can talk about whatever we want. Whenever we want, that is important.”

“What would we need to talk about?” Bell climbs into her bunk.

“Anything we don’t want the military to hear,” Lucas looks around at his friends. “Which could be a lot once they tell us more about what is going on and why they picked us.”

“They brief us tomorrow,” Riley lets her eyelids flutter shut. “We will ask as many questions as possible then. We will learn everything about this tomorrow. For right now, I am so tired and just want to sleep. That ride here was so long. I can’t believe it.”

          “One more thing,” Lucas smirks.

“Spit it out, vampire boy,” Riley yawns.

“We stick together, no matter what. At all times. We are outsiders in this place, and I don’t trust anyone but you guys. Riley is better at judging people, but I have a bad feeling about everyone here. So, do I make myself clear?”
