The Super Babies - Part 3

The S.M.S.B. is back, but now they're all a lot older. In this era of peace, Baby Intelligence, now going by Master Intelligence, continues to train the group. Among them is a new member named Red X, whose powers could be more than meets the eye. And at Bast Castle, a past enemy is planning to return from the dead and seek revenge. And if the NoHeads return to power, chaos will follow.

9. The War Begins

With Hell Burnbottom now on the grounds, there were numerous casualties of war the following year. When the State Senator refused to surrender the government to the new NoHeads, Hell Burnbottom and the Lunch Money Bandit destroyed two famous bridges in New York, drowning many Muggles, though some of them managed to escape. Flora Fortescue and Katie Black's successor as Mayor both went missing and the renowned blacksmith George Thames’ workshop was emptied by Burnbottom himself, but there was no sign of struggle. Flora Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor showed evidence of a struggle or fight, but no sign of her would ever be found. A man named Octavius Jackson disappeared in the early spring.

After his rebirth, Darren Slade, who had been possessed by the NoHeads several years before, fled for his life. Whammo admitted that Darren had come to him, concerned about the NoHead Sign on his left forearm, a mark Whammo also bore. The reason Darren feared Hell Burnbottom's return was because he had betrayed too many of the Dark Lord's servants to be allowed back into the fold. However, the Lunch Money Bandit doubted that Darren would get far, as the Dark Lord had ways of tracking his enemies.

Police officer Emily Vane was murdered by an unknown assailant. Hell Burnbottom himself dueled and killed Amelia Fiennes, the head of Law Enforcement, who had put up a good fight against him and was one of the greatest Muggles (people without superpowers) of the age.

This turn of events allowed Hell Burnbottom to replace the State Senator as the new head of government. Now the NoHeads were officially in charge.

During this time, Hell Burnbottom also gathered the strengths of the lions, panthers and werewolves to his cause. Because of the government’s original denial of the NoHeads' return, Burnbottom was able to rebuild his forces unhindered, which led the government to fall far too back behind by the time they finally accepted the truth three months after Red X left the MBH.

Hell Burnbottom also set a plan in motion to assassinate Master Intelligence, who he knew was the leader of the resistance against him, striking a crippling blow against the world’s morale as well as removing the S.M.S.B. from existence.

Contrary to the Lunch Money Bandit's belief, Darren was able to stay alive for a whole year, fleeing to parts unknown. Inevitably, however, Darren was finally tracked down to a shack in the north. Hell Burnbottom killed him there, and although he put up a fight, he was soon begging on his knees for mercy. Meanwhile, Whammo cast the NoHead Sign into the sky above it, and Darren's body would later be found in the shack itself for his disobedience to the Dark Lord.

In January of 2033, roughly twenty months after Hell Burnbottom was reborn, Red X woke up from her sleep. The sun had just risen over the Thomas house.

Red X immediately headed down to her jother's room, where she opened the door with a knock and peered down toward her mother's bed. "Wake up!" she said. "Wake up, Mom!" She stood up. "It's time to take me to the MBH!"

Cynthia's mother yawned. "Hm? Are you sure? What time is it?"

Red X left to get her suitcase. "It's wake-up time!"

Soon after, their van arrived at the MBH.

"Well, see you next year, I guess," said Mrs. Thomas.

"See you then," said Red X, and climbed out. The first person she saw was--

"Hey, Tyler!"

Telekinibabe made for the van. "Hey, Cynthia! It's good to see you."

"Where's Lindsay?" Red X asked immediately.

Telekinibabe gulped. Composing himself, he pointed at Red X's feet. "Cynthia, your shoe's untied."

Red X bent over to tie them. But just as soon as she had slipped through the first knot, someone bumped into her and almost tripped. Red X looked up to see Lindsay Kellerman.

"Watch it, jerk!" said Lindsay. "The pain in your ugly face is insufferable to me."

Red X looked over angrily. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"What's wrong with you?!" Lindsay shouted back. Her voice lowered slightly, and a slight smile crept across her face. To Red X, this only made her look more intimidating. "You'd better watch your back..." She raised her hand toward Red X. "If you don't want the Master to fire you!" With that, Red X felt a surge of wavering energy before she was suddenly swept off her feet. She went hurling through the air and hit the floor hard. For a moment, she remained on the floor, half dazed. Lindsay began to giggle.

Furious, Red X got to her feet. "For the last time, Lindsay. What is wrong with--"

At that note, Lindsay disappeared.

Red X looked on, feeling her cheeks heating. Telekinibabe turned. "Cynthia, I don't think Lindsay likes you anymore."

Cynthia rolled her eyes. "You think?"

Telekinibabe looked right into her eyes, and his expression showed nothing except sincerity. "No," he said. "She's definitely shown signs of it. While you were gone."

Red X's eyes narrowed as she replied, "Right."

Before Telekinibabe could reply, Master Intelligence came outside. "Hey, Cynthia."

"Hey, Peter." Cynthia turned to face him. "Lindsay's been--" Just then, she saw a very annoyed look in his eyes. "Oh."
