10. Field Trip to Antarctica

Later that day, the S.M.S.B. members all played dodgeball together. One team held Master Intelligence, Baby Strength, and Red X, and the other held Lindsay Kellerman, Force Baby, Sebiscuits, and Telekinibabe.

The game began, and dozens of balls constantly flew through the air as the teams locked into competition. Master Intelligence also used a dodgeball to deflect one of the balls. Lindsay used her feet to kick balls aside.

After dodging an overhand from Sebiscuits, Red X noticed Lindsay on one side.

"Game over, Lindsay!" she shouted. Eager to score her out, Red X hurled the ball hard toward Lindsay's side.

However, Lindsay dodged it and the ball flew further until pow! it slammed into Force Baby's face.

Baby Strength, shocked, tossed the ball he was holding and rushed to the scene. Force Baby began to cry as he rubbed his bruised cheek. Baby Strength grabbed Force Baby in a sidehug and turned to Red X. "Geez, Red X!" he said angrily.

Red X's jaw dropped. "Oh no!"

Just then, Lindsay walked up to Red X. "Nice move, dorkus," she said. Knowing the game was still in progress, she dropped her ball on Red X's head. "You're out."

Later, in class, Master Intelligence gave Red X a flier. "Here, Red X."

Red X took it and read:

Important Field Trip Info

WHEN: Next week

WHERE: Antarctica

ACTIVITIES: camp in the ice caves, observe penguins and their behavior, and eat the things they eat for dinner

PURPOSE: To study animals in Antarctica in order to learn how to adapt to extreme coldness

ITEMS TO BRING: long underwear, waterproof boots, gloves, sunglasses, waterproof coat, scarf, hat

Red X realized she already had most of the items in her suitcase. "Hm," she said, pocketing it.

Later on, Red X prepared to go on the field trip. However, her woolly socks were too thick to fit under her boots. She made several attempts, but they all resulted in failure. And her winter coat was already on and buttoned up.

Just then, a voice called, "Cynthia?"

Who was that? Sounds like... Red X's head jerked up. "Lindsay, is that you?"

Telekinibabe peeked through the doorway. "No, it's Tyler." As Red X turned, he took a deep breath. "Look, I know Lindsay hates you now, but I like you a lot."

Red X looked surprised. "Really?"

"At least you've got the rest of us!" Telekinibabe pointed out.

Red X immediately rushed into Tyler's arms, hugging him tight. And then--

"Cynthia?"

Telekinibabe took a step to Red X's side. "Cynthia, Peter's calling us, so we need to go." He turned back to Red X, who returned his stare. "Is there any way I can help you?"

Red X pointed to her feet. "You can help me get these on."

Telekinibabe looked down. "Right. Cynthia, I don't think that can be done." He scratched his chin. "Luckily, I have some extra socks that will fit you perfectly." He turned to leave. "They're sown from wool."

"Thanks, Tyler," said Cynthia.

Two months after Red X's return to the MBH, in October, they went on the Field Trip. Although Red X did not expect how cold it would be, she did bring woolly socks she had borrowed from Telekinibabe.

Their first activity was to look for vegetation on the planet. Red X was assigned with Lindsay and Master Intelligence. All three of them began to scout the icy terrain.

"It's freezing here!" Red X commented.

"What were you expecting?" Master Intelligence replied.

It was only now that Red X realized her teeth were chattering. "We must b-be at the North Pole. Or the South Pole!"

Lindsay rolled her eyes. "We are at the South Pole, genius."

Just then, they arrived at their camp resort--a small, dome-shaped building that Master Intelligence had rented. "Ah...here we are."

A moment later, Sebiscuits, Telekinibabe, Baby Strength, and Force Baby showed up. With that, they all filed inside. Inside, they all laid out their sleeping bags as Red X looked on.

"This is neat!" she muttered.

"Cynthia? We don't have all day."

Red X turned to see Master Intelligence. "Sorry, Master." She stepped forward and pulled out her sleeping bag.

After more lecturing, they all went to sleep.

The next morning, they all went sledding, which proved to be a lot of fun. Master Intelligence watched as Lindsay and Sebiscuits went down the hill. Just as they landed, Red X came rushing up to him.

"Hey! Peter!" she shouted.

Master Intelligence turned to face her. "Yes?"

"I found a really neat hill!" Red X replied, and pointed.

"Let's see it," Master Intelligence replied. "Come on, guys! Lindsay, help Sebiscuits carry the sled."

"Really?" Lindsay groaned as she helped Sebiscuits pick it up and carry it.

When Ronald showed the big demonstration, even Severus and Vernon were impressed by Ronald's big jump.

Red X looked up at Master Intelligence and smiled. The only bad part's having to carry the sled back up...

Afterwards, the other members took turns riding the hill.

Later, everyone returned to the quarters Master Intelligence had set up. And suddenly, a numbing howl filled the air.

"What's that?" Force Baby asked nervously.

Master Intelligence turned and frowned. "Stick with me," he said firmly. Everyone proceeded nervously.

Suddenly, two polar bears showed up! All the members shrieked except Master Intelligence. Their swords were all stashed away in the Pinewood Derby, except that of Master Intelligence.

Throwing off his coat, Master Intelligence drew his sword and aimed it at the bears. One of them raced behind him, and he turned to slash it, but missed. A moment later, the second one extended its hand and bashed his head, knocking him to the ice-cold floor.

Telekinibabe immediately charged, but the polar bear bit him in the arm. Tyler howled in pain and collapsed.

Just then, Sebiscuits realized Master Intelligence's sword had gone flying into the icy ceiling and was wedged inside. He called on it.

Both polar bears immediately rushed at him. He used his sword to slash at the first one's shoulder. As it howled in pain, he used his telekinesis to hurl a bobby pin at the second. He hadn't meant to kill them. Both of them ran away. All the students were amazed.

Sebiscuits turned. "Thank you! Now, let's see if we can awake our Master."

"Yes, let's," said Lindsay, and bent down.
