The Princess of Pluto and the God of the Stars

It all began a long time ago, back before the world was civilized, The Greek gods ruled the Earth. Two gods are the particular interest in this not quite storybook story.
Artemis, being the one goddess who swore to be a virgin forever, was also the loneliest of the gods, and our story begins with her, fast forward a few thousand years and she is on the hunt with her hunters, looking for the monsters that find their way out of the underworld.

“Artemis!!” Evelyn Ravenclaw called out, the goddess bolted upright, instinctively grabbing her bow,

“Is he near?” The goddess asked, leaving her tent, her head hunter nodded her head in response. “Pack up camp, we fight at dawn.” She said and stared towards the horizon, in just a few moments her brother, Apollo, would drive his sun chariot across the sky, bringing daylight to the people of Earth. Behind her, her hunters scrambled to pack up camp, girls, aged from small youngling’s to just about adults, ran around looking for their weapons, mostly their bows, some used hunting knives, but not many.  Almost all the girls wore either a silver dress, or black pants and a silver top. Evelyn was the only girl with a crown, made of silver branches, placed snuggly on her head. A similar one on Artemis’ head.

On the horizon the sun chariot began to be visible. Artemis turned to her girls. “Listen, this is easily the hardest monster that we have ever hunted together, I want you girls to know that if you don’t make it through this, that I love you and I am proud of you all. You have stuck by me and proved that you believe, and today, whether we kill this beast or it kills us, we are victorious, because we had each other. I hope to see you on the other side. Get in your places” She spoke, each word dripping with such passion, it showed how strongly she felt for her girls.

It wasn’t long before they were in battle with Orthrus, Cerberus’ brother, a nasty dog creature with two heads instead of three. There were girls being slaughtered left and right. Soon it was Artemis and Evelyn, flanking the beast. Evelyn fell, leaving Artemis alone to kill the beast. They fought for hours, Gold Ichor dripping from cuts all over Artemis’ body, She finally slayed the beast and fell to her knees, weeping over the loss of her hunters. She wept and wept, blessing each of their souls before letting them go. When she came to Evelyn’s body, she took her and put her into the heavens. Creating a star out of her soul, Artemis grabbed the tiara gently and hooked it around her hunter’s knife. Once again, she was alone.

She walked across the continents, searching far and wide, for any sign of a monster, but without her hunters, she was a mess. Whilst waiting for the sun to set on chilly night in March, she was watching the ocean waves hit the beach, retreat and repeat whilst perched atop a cliff, overlooking Newport, Rhode Island. As the sun set she could see the stars starting to show.

And this, is where our story really begins, As the night fell around her she took her loneliness in hand and created something she could not have any other way… a child. She created a daughter from the stars.  And that child, is the star of this story.
