Gwen

She wondered when it was that she cast her spell. And when it was that it started to work; At what point did her heartbeat start to spike? And the heat begin to rise in her cheeks? When her palms started to sweat? And – Oh no. Here it went again. Across the room eyes met eyes As Gwen offered Bobby a warming smile that rushed into her heart and filled it with something Bobby wasn’t sure she wanted there at all.

1. Gwen

There was something about the way she walked that just made you want to watch her.

And – Bobby didn’t know – she couldn’t speak for everyone

But that girl… she was…

Magnetic.

Mystic.

Magic.

To Bobby, at least.

She wondered when it was that she cast her spell.

And when it was that it started to work;

At what point did her heartbeat start to spike?

And the heat begin to rise in her cheeks?

When her palms started to sweat?

And – Oh no. Here it went again.

Across the room eyes met eyes

As Gwen offered Bobby a warming smile that rushed into her heart and filled it with something Bobby wasn’t sure she wanted there at all.

Did she know what it was she was doing?

Did she know how she plagued Bobby’s mind?

How she jumbled her words and thoughts?

And how that boy on her arm sank her stomach and shrunk her form…

Golden hair flicked as Gwen turned away, her green eyes sparkling;

Glittering.

Shining.

That must have been it.

The eyes.

Those emerald - apple green eyes that swirled into Bobby’s own orbs and shook out any common sense she had – almost – formed around the girl.

Then again, Bobby had come to find it was the girl’s general presence that really stupefied her.

And maybe it was just the excitement of a new friend

-Ha. Friend. Because that word didn’t feel like a stab in the back –

That made her swoon like that.

Because that’s what Gwen was, right?

Bobby’s friend.

Bobby’s nice, sweet, enchanting…

And endearing…

And

Beautiful friend.

That was the word, she supposed.

Beautiful. Adjective. Definition; Gwen.

But then – No.

Gwen. Friend.

Gwen was Bobby’s friend.

And that was okay.

Bobby sighed;

Her gorgeous girl – girl space friend – friend’s laugh fluttering into her ears as Bobby found her whole form begin to glow.

Was she allowed to look at her like that?

Did friends call friends beautiful?

Did they think about them in the seconds before falling asleep?

And within minutes of waking up?

She didn’t think so.

But then what did that make her?

Was Gwen a friend?

Bobby hoped so.

For, like her (love her, maybe?) as she might

Gwen wasn’t Gwen if she weren’t sparkling.

If she weren’t that joyous girl Bobby had come to… well…

It didn’t matter.

Regardless,

Bobby didn’t know if she could keep that star glowing

If she could keep the glass glistening without breaking it.

And Bobby was clumsy.

She broke a lot of things – a lot of people.

Gwen was the last person she wanted to snap.

So Bobby stayed silent

And was happy that she was happy.

Her happy friend

With her happy boy

In their own happy world.

Without Bobby.

And that was alright.

Gwen. Bobby. Friends.

(She just had to remember that)

And so Gwen was left intact

For why ruin a masterpiece

For a chance to scratch the paint.
