“Because when I take them off and wear my boxing boots it makes my legs feel lighter and I can move around the ring faster.’

“I see said Britta looking the lad up and down.’

“What’s your name then?

“They call me Mickey Boom Boom McCabe.’

“Why do they call you boom boom for?’ “Because when I hit someone in the ring with a left then my right I grunt boom boom through my mouth piece. So what do you call yourselves then said Mickey with a perfect smile?’

“I’m Britta and this is my friend Danique but we call her Dani.’

“Well then Britta and Dani if you would care to follow me then I will show you where the Rex Hotel is situated. Before the girls knew it Mickey had set off at a pace and they had to pedal hard to keep up with him.

Every now and again he would turn his head to make sure that the girls were keeping up. He ran past the Black Midden’s along by Knot’s flats until he reached Lord Collingwood’s monument. Then he turned up the bank which took him to Tynemouth priory castle.

The girls struggled to get up the bank until Mickey got behind them both and pushed them both to the top.

Once on flat ground Mickey increased the pace all the way along Tynemouth through to Cullercoats where the smell of fish and chips from Samson Citrone’s shop hit the girl’s noses.

They carried on past the Bay Hotel and the Queens Head then Mickey turned around the bend then onwards towards Whitley Bay. When he reached the Rex Hotel he Stopped and waited for the girls to catch up.

“You are one fit lad said Britta out of breath.’

“Lad said Mickey; I’m twenty years old.’

You have such an angelic looking face Mickey; you would think that you were younger.’

“Well this is where you are going to work; you go in that door there said Mickey pointing at the set of double doors.

“Danke u Mickey it was very kind of you to show us where we need to be.’

“It was nothing really I only live around the corner in Brook Street; if you would permit me I would like to offer you coffee; that’s if you do not have to go to work now?
