He dabbed lightly the cut under his eye then dried himself off. It was too hot to wear a suit in this weather so he pushed on a Lonsdale tee shirt a pair of Bermuda shorts and a pair of sandals.

“He thanked Terry and Joe Barker after the doctor inserted four stitches under his eye.’ He paid them their expenses then they left for the airport. He gave a brief interview with Colin Hart from the Sun news paper who informed him that he was now the number one contender for the welterweight championship of the world. A title held by Ray Seals former Olympic Gold medallist. Mickey told him that he wasn’t bothered who was the Champion and said “If I didn’t think I could win the World title I wouldn’t be climbing in the ring with him.’

He turned and got into a taxi and it drove him to the airport. Once there he rang Britta to tell her the news. She was over the moon and told her father and mother who had come over.

I am flying to Amsterdam in two hours can you meet me at the airport?

“Yes Mickey I will see you there.

Mickey put on a pair of dark glasses then headed towards the departure lounge. He wore a baseball cap so that he wouldn’t be recognised by British tourists.

He picked up the English newspapers where he looked at the sports pages. Only one paper, the columnist from the Daily Express gave him a chance of winning the European title. Even Colin Hart whom he’d just spoken with said Garcia would be too strong for Geordie warrior. Mickey smiled then went through the check in. The alarm went off as he went through the metal detector. The security surrounded Mickey until they lift up his shirt to see the European Belt around his waist.

They all shook his hand and he signed a few autographs. On board the plane he wasn’t bothered by any passengers and he flew to Amsterdam and slept all the way.

When Britta saw him she kissed the now swollen eye but said you’ll live.’

“Come on lets get out of here in case I’m spotted. He told her what had happened in Spain. She laughed at him and told him that her mother was making something nice for him to eat. “Great he replied I’m starved.’

She was driving the truck and it was about five minutes before he realised that Britta was driving. “When did you pass you driving test he asked?

“Last week isn’t it great.’

“Well we will have to see about getting you your own mode of transport.’

“I cannot let the girlfriend of the future champion of the world drive an old truck.’

“There is nothing wrong with this truck; its ten years old and still going strong.
