Garcia stared at him from his corner he wore the colours of his country on his dressing gown and shorts with white boxing boots.

Mickey a pair of blue and white trunks with Boom, Boom written on the waist band.

The referee called them together after the announcements had been made.

They touched gloves and Mickey waited for the bell.

The plan was to box on the retreat for four or five rounds to keep Garcia at long range then start to open up on him. The bell sounded and the crowd of fifteen thousand fans started cheering for Garcia.

It was 32% inside the arena and Mickey was sweating already. He jabbed and moved for the whole round winning it easily. The next four rounds followed a similar pattern with Mickey scoring at long range. Then Terry told him to change tack and force the Spaniard back Mickey went after his man hitting him with some good shot and went in for a body shot. Garcia butted him under his left eye and the blood oozed from the cut. Mickey Remonstrated with the referee but he called for them to box on.

Mickey went back to boxing on the retreat again and he scored it an even round with both fighters exchanging blows to head and body.

Look Mickey listen to me you are not going to win this fight going backward. The judges at ringside are looking for aggression. If you want this title man you are going to have to take it from him because he ain’t going to give you it.’

Mickey took in some water because it was hotter than hell in there.

Over the next four rounds Terry Lawless had Mickey ahead on points by two rounds.

Going into round ten Garcia kept trying to head butt him so Mickey changed tack instead of trying to land his left hook he started to use the left upper cut every time that Garcia ducked down Mickey clobbered him with an uppercut when his head came up Mickey hit him with a hard right. This opened a long jagged cut over the Spaniards left eye, the blood was running into the eye now and it was clear Angel couldn’t see on the left side. Going into round eleven it was Garcia who was now back peddling. He was thinking if he could see these two rounds out he would get the fight on points but Mickey had other ideas he unleashed hell in there and threw murderous punches at Garcia; his eye was a mess now with blood oozing right down his face five more punches to the head and Garcia had another cut over the right eye and this time the referee called a halt.

Mickey McCabe was now the European Champion.

He climbed out of the ring with his belt wrapped around his waist and went straight to his dressing room. He undressed then got under a cold shower.

The blood from his and Garcia’s eye was splattered all over his chest and back and it ran down the plughole in the floor.
