“The body punching seemed the factor in this fight don’t you think said Harry?

“Yes,’ there’s not many men can stand up to body punching.’

“You are so accurate with your body punching too; if you look at round six when you hurt Johnny for the first time, Mickey looked at the monitor and watched the replay.

“I think that was the turning point in the fight.’

“Most definitely, I could feel that Johnny was weakening under my body shots.’

Johnny Adelphi had now recovered and came over to congratulate the new champion.

They had their arms round each others shoulders as harry continued to interview them for another five minutes then Johnny waved to the North Shields fans who were still chanting his name. He thought to himself, if it was this good winning a British title what would it be like fighting for a world title. He placed the Lonsdale Belt over his shoulder then walked to the dressing room where Joe Myers and Eric Clark stood waiting.’

“Well you did, it they voiced.

Yes, I’ve got the first bit right; now I’ve got two more hurdles to climb.

Angel Robinson Garcia is there for the taking Mickey; he’s on the slide. I’m taking a few months rest then I am going to defend this belt a couple of times first then I will fight Garcia. I want to own this belt outright.’

Yes, we understand; make a few bob out of it.’

“You had better get showered off before you catch cold Mickey.

“Good luck.

“Thanks, I won’t forget what you have done for me.’

“Bring that world title home and that will be more than a repayment said Eric.’

Mickey turned then went to the bench and sat down to undo his boxing boots.

Joe and Eric left him to get showered.

Terry and Jimmy came in as Joe and Eric were leaving carrying a blue velvet box in which to place the Lonsdale Belt.

Here’s your cheque for twenty five grand but you have expenses to pay out of that?

How much does that come to?

“Well there’s my 10% and Jimmy’s fee, plus your gym fees which comes to £5.000 plus your tax which leaves you eighteen grand give or take.

Bloody hell,’ they know how to take a big slice off you for doing sod all don’t they.

When you think of all the boxers in the world the tax man is raking in millions from us. They are not getting their brains punched in either.

“Seems to me they are the best boxers in the world; they win from every boxer and never even throw a punch.
