The Crossing

"The Crossing" tells of two Dutch girls in 1970 who come looking for work on the DFDS ferry- it is In North Shields they meet Mickey Boom Boom McCabe a local boxer who helps them find digs in Whitley Bay- one of the girls becomes romantically involved with Nigel Worthington a local business man and crook when she is working with her friend in the Rex Hotel as a receptionist. Worthington set up another boxer Jeff Decker when Jeff goes to collect a strange package he opens it to discover two kilo's of coke. He recuts the coke and sells it. Worthington finds out and Jeff ends up in hospital with a broken jaw and several ribs. Mickey McCabe rallies his boxing friends together where they mete out their kind of punishment- Mickey is forced to move to London and gets involved with the underworld after Worthington seeks revenge- Can Mickey fulfil his dream and become the welterweight champion of the world- in this story which will take you around the North East - London and Zaandam in Holland.

Dennis got into his Bentley and picked up the phone and made a call.’

“Get me on a flight to Newcastle tonight will you, I have business.’

“Charlie.’ take me to Heathrow will you?’

“Yes, Gov’

The car turned left then carried on following the signposts to the airport.’


The charter plane took less than an hour to get to Newcastle airport a car was waiting for him as he left the terminal building carrying flowers and fruit in a basket. He handed them to the driver and then got into the back seat.

“Where are we going Mr Lord?

“Wansbeck General Hospital and step on it.’

“Yes Gov’

The black coloured Jag pulled away.

Dennis Lord closed his eyes and had a nap until he was awoken by his driver.

The two men got out and His heavy carried the flowers and the basket of fruit.

Nigel Worthington had been transferred to a private ward and was very surprised when Dennis Lord walked in.

The heavy stood outside waiting.

Hey Nigel,’ I hear you’ve been in the wars.’

Dennis placed the flowers on the bed and the fruit on his locker.

“I guess you know who did this to me then?

“Yes,’ but come on Nigel you were trying to screw Mickey’s team mate for ten grand were you not?’

The bastard was taking liberties with me Dennis, he had to be stopped; he was re-cutting the coke and dealing himself.

“Did Mickey McCabe know this?

“I don’t know; but I want that Fergie taken care of.’

That I can do for you but you must leave Mickey out of this understood?

Nigel thought for a moment then nodded.

“Right then consider this a favour; I will take care of Ronnie Ferguson.’

Dennis then turned and opened the door, Get well soon Nigel he said as he closed the door behind him.

Walking down the corridor Dennis saw a public telephone he dialled a number then waited.

“Get me a lead on a Mr Ronnie Ferguson will you; yes.’ I want a meeting tomorrow night at 8 o’clock at The Three Bridges hotel in Newcastle bring him there but in one piece; I want to deal with him personally.
