The two girls kept close to each other as they made their way to the A8 motorway and took the road sign for Zaandam.

The cycling was fairly easy given that most of the roads were flat once on the motor way all there was to see was fields of tulips in various colours on the banks of the river were the obligatory windmills; some were painted lime green the others in traditional colours.

In the town centre most of the buildings had a blue and green façade and a red tiled roof. The large inntel hotels stood out from all the other buildings.

They carried on through Oostzaan until they came to Ferry Terminal in Ijmuiden. They checked in then got their tickets. The bikes were stowed away then they went onboard the King of Scandinavia; the ferry that would take them to North Shields.

It was now four thirty that afternoon and the ferry would sail at five o’clock. They found their cabin and stowed away their clean clothes then headed to the duty free shop where they bought a bottle of vodka and some coke. They also bought some chocolate to eat before going back to their cabin where upon they got the glasses from the bathroom and used them to pour themselves a good measure of vodka and coke each then sat on the bunks sipping away.

“We will drink half of this before we hit the disco later said Dani.’

“Do you think we will be in a fit state to dance like Dani?

“Of course we will it’s only five forty five. We will head out about seven. There’s bound to be some English lads who will buy us a few drinks.’

Just take it easy and don’t bring them back here.’

“We will just disappear around twelve thirty; by then the lads will be too pissed to know where we have gone and we will have had a free night.’

When we go in just buy coke alright; they stick it up you here at the bar. I will sneak some vodka in my tights and we will take the coke to the toilet and then top them up.

“What if we are caught?’

“Who’s going to catch us? The toilet will be locked when we are in it.

If anyone says anything we tell them that you need me to give you your insulin injection as you get a bit hyper.’

“My God Dani, you think of everything don’t you.’

“We need to keep as much money as possible Britta; we need to make sure that we have enough to last us until we get paid from the hotel.’

“How much is the Rex Hotel in Whitley Bay paying us on the reception?’

It’s about £12.000 a year but there are bonus payments.
