9. Chapter Nine: Waking Up and Goodbyes

When I open my eyes, my vision is blurry like being in a thick fog. I can see a hint of gold glinting in front of me and slowly, I start to be able to see normally. Hovering at the end of my bed is Professor Dumbledore, who is smiling. I nearly yelp in shock as he gains a look of amusement. Probably from the look on my face, no doubt.
        "Professor?" I ask, stunned.
"Hello Miss Ghim." He replies sweetly. I look over and see some sweets next to me on the bedside table. Then I slowly return my gaze to Dumbledore.
"You have been in here for two days," He says, answering my question without even needing to hear it. " You have some gifts from some admirers and I do believe two young boys and Girl paid you a visit as well." I instantly think about Will and Riley, they came to visit me. They came. They came to see me. Then a thought flashes into my mind.
"Sir?" I question. "Why was I in such pain down there? It was as though someone was torturing me."
He face keeps his smile but deep in his eyes, I see worry.
"Ah, you see miss Ghim, One day, you will come to understand. This is information you should discover on your own." He states. At that I'm very confused, but I don't question him. If he says I should find out on my own I will trust his word. If he wants to wait, we will wait.
I look over and see Harry in the bed a couple down from me, looking frail. He looks dead. DEAD!
"Is he-" I ask, panic etched in my voice.
"No, he is quite well, alive. He should wake up any day now, his case was a bit different than yours." He says, looking over at Harry's form. I let out of a sigh of relief. I'm not close to Harry, but I do want him to be alright.
"You know Miss Ghim, you will face many realizations in the years to come, never think them as dark. All you have to do is turn on the light." He says, his eyes twinkling. Now I'm even more confused but I nod my head anyways.
A little while later, after the Professor leaves, Will comes in. Refusing to look me in the eye. He takes a seat at the end of the bed and stares down at his shoes. Riley comes in seconds later and des the same.
"I'm sorry," Will mumbles. "We had no right to be the way we were."
My eyes tear up as they steal a glance at my weak state. I'm still slightly more pale than I was, but I'm feeling better. They came back, They came back to give me an apology.
"I missed you guys," I croak, a sob etched into my voice.
The two of them pull me into a tight hug mixed with tears and cries of happiness. I tell them about everything that has happened since they stopped talking to me. The forbidden forest, helping Snape with his leg (They were very baffled at that one...), what happened with Quirrel... I tell them everything. I missed getting to confide in somebody, it feels good. They also agreed that I have the worst luck and will, with my luck, be dead by the end of summer. I wouldn't doubt it either.

When I walked into the great hall the evening of the last feast. It was covered in the colors of my house, green and silver. I was happy of course, but at this point I didn't really care that much after all I had been through. I was still a pleasure to have won. A very large banner was hanging behind the high table up front, a large snake in the middle. After Harry had come down from the Hospital wing and sat by the rest of the Gryffindors, Dumbledore arrives moments later.
"Another year gone!" Dumbledore says cheerfully. "And I must trouble you with an old man's wheezing waffle before we sink our teeth into our delicious feast. What a year it has been! Hopefully your heads are all a little fuller then they have the whole summer ahead to get them nice and empty before next year starts... Now as I understand it, the house cup needs awarding, and the points stand thus: In fourth place, Gryffindor, with three hundred and twelve points; in third, Hufflepuff, with three hundred and fifty-two; Ravenclaw has four hundred and twenty-six and Slytherin, four hundred and seventy two."
A storm of cheering and stamping broke out. Malfoy was banging his goblet against the table and let me say that it is a sickening site. Even for me...
"Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin," said Dumbledore. "However, recent events must be taken into account."
I look at the professor in confusion and he returns my look with a smile.
"Ahem, I have a few last-minute points to dish out. Let me see, Yes... First to Mr. Ronald Weasley..."
I look at Ron and his face and he has gone purple like a radish. I laugh a bit at that.
"...for the best-played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryffindor House fifty points." Dumbledore says, causing the Gryffindor table to rumble in cheers, than it returns back to silence.
"Second- to miss Hermione Granger... for the use of cool logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindor house fifty points." He says. I do the mental math and Gryffindor is at four hundred and twelve points, passing Hufflepuff.
"Third to miss Sherie Ghim..." I feel my entire face turn red as a fire engine. What the heck am I getting points for?
"For being able to decipher dream from reality and risking the worst to help another, I award Slytherin house twenty points." He says, making my table give me a round of applause. I bury my face into my hands.
"Fourth to Mr. Harry Potter..." Dumbledore says, making the room grow very quiet. "...for pure nerve and outstanding  courage, I award Gryffindor House seventy points. " More applause erupts loudly. I do the math and Gryffindor is only around twenty points behind us.
"There are all kinds of courage," Dumbledore says, while smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but just as much to stand up to your friends. I therefore  award twenty points to Mr. Neville Longbottom."
The Gryffindor table makes it sound like an explosion went off. The noise coming from them is incredible and deafening.  I look over at Malfoy and he is frozen with a look of disbelief and shock, much like the rest of the table. Will, Riley, and I are the only ones to applaud for them. Earning us some glares from them.
"Which means," Dumbledore calls over the noise. "We need a little change of decoration."
He claps his hand and all the decorations become red and gold and a lion replaces the snake on the large banner. Professor Snape shakes the hand of Professor McGonagall with a forced smile.
I thought I would be sad about us losing the house cup. I walk over to the Gryffindor table, glares shooting into my back from my other house members, and try to reach Neville. When I get there he is pale and like in a shock.
"Congrats Neville!" I yell over the noise. I give him a small hug. I see several Gryffindors in shock that I had gone over there at all. I am very happy for the Gryffindors. Slytherin has won almost seven times. It was about time we lost for once, I will never forget this.
When I walk back to the Slytherin and table, I see Malfoy glaring at me and muttering something to his minions. After all the humiliation and physical pain I have caused him. He is probably going to make my life a living hell next year. This is going to get interesting....

After I had finished packing my trunks, I pull them down with me and start to make my way towards the scarlet steam engine that goes to my next destination, home. I see Harry and Ron and give them hugs, along with Hermione. I would sit with them on the way back but I'd rather stick with Will and Riley, also Daniel in the mix.
"Write to me, All three of you," I say pointing to them. They say they will and runoff to the train. I climb the steps and find the compartment with my gang in it and slide open the glass compartment door.
They say hellos and I notice somebody I have never met before. He looks at me and his face lights up, apparently he forgot that I did't know who he was.
"Oh! I'm Ethan, Ethan Ours.. " He says, shaking my hand. He has wavy brown hair that meets his shoulder and brown eyes. He looks older, maybe fourth or fifth year and he talks a little bit louder than he needs to. At least when he is talking it will be loud enough to bring me out of daydreaming about food, that's a bright side I guess. I smile and realize that this is Daniel's brother. He also has younger twin sisters also. I can't remember their names though. We all take a seat and talk about how our year went. Well, everyone knows about mine so I do a little less talking than the others. The twins pay me a visit and Will and I talk jokes with them. After they leave, Ethan taps my shoulder and I turn to him.
"You should come visit for a week or two before school begins again, it could surprise Daniel and you could me our other sisters. You might get along well with one of them, the other is very independent." I nod my head and tell me to owl me about it during the summer.
"What was that about?" Daniel asks nudging me.
"Nothing, you'll find out later." I say. He looks intrigued but that just makes me laugh and turn my attention back to Will who was describing the first time we met. AKA water and a mini war. I laugh as he talks about the look on my face and does impressions.
Before I know it, we are at platform 9 and 3/4. When we pull up, I see my family and Will's standing there to greet us. It turns out they finished their traveling for the year. I see Claire standing there looking slightly terrified of all the magic that is going on. I wonder what her reaction was to running through the wall to get in. That ought to have been a sight. When I climb out we all hug each other and go home.
My first year at Hogwarts was many things. It was fun, adventurous, mysterious, crazy, painful, and so many others. I would have thought that it would never seem normal but in the end I was no longer an outsider in my world. I was part of a family and am happy to be who I am. A witch.
